4/5 WWE WrestleMania 25 PPV Reax
Randy McCray of Pittsburgh, Pa. (7.0): Best match: Undertaker vs. HBK. Worst match: Divas Battle Royal. Overall, I was pretty disappointed with the event. For a "25th Anniversary," I would have expected many four-star-plus matches. Instead, there were many mediocre matches. MITB was okay, but I think last year's was better. Punk winning was a bit of a let down. Apparently the live crowd felt similarly. A chorus of boos began the moment Punk got close. Snuka and Piper looked BAD. Steamboat and Jericho saved the first part of the show for me. "The Dragon" has a few moves left. The Rourke segment was too long and kind of blah. Hardy vs. Hardy was underwhelming for me. I'm not a fan of "Wrestler A" getting the best of "Wrestler B" before "Wrestler B" hits one move and wins. Now, it was a sweet Twist of Fate, but it felt too quick. JBL vs. Rey was a bomb. Taker vs. HBK was one of the best matches I have ever seen. Totally EPIC. I ordered the PPV because of this match, and it delivered. Every finisher was countered/kicked out of. They made you believe that Shawn had a chance. Beautiful pace, and a well-executed ending. The triple threat match was predictable. Triple H vs. Randy Orton should have been no where near the main event. Slow pace, no near falls, and the final pin comes after punches and a Pedigree. What? I wasn't the least bit surprised. After all the story build, Legacy and the McMahons were no where to be found. This spot should have rightfully been Taker and HBK. And that was our 25th Anniversary. Mediocre, save HBK-Taker and Steamboat.
Adam of New York, N.Y. (6.0): Best Match: HBK vs. The Undertaker. Worst Match: Rey vs. JBL. Money in the Bank was pretty good as usual. If they are smart they won't have Punk cash in until WrestleMania XXVI. After tonight, it's safe to say WWE desperately needs someone new in the main event next year. Punk and Christian would be perfect. Women's battle royal was disappointing. The whole sell of the match was the former divas, and we didn't get to see entrances for the former ones, and barely saw who they were. I wanted to hear Sunny's classic theme. Santino was funny, but I wish Trish would have come out and eliminated him. Kid Rock was way too long. Steamboat saved the Legends match and showed he can still go. The Hardys match was entertaining, as well, with some great spots. Shawn Michaels vs. Taker was amazing, and the crowd was so into it, definitely one of the loudest WM matches ever. Should have been the main event. The two title matches were kind of boring, but there was no way they could follow HBK vs. Taker. The build up for Orton-Hunter was great, but the match was maybe okay. They faced off last year with Cena, so it really wasn't much different. They really need to put at least two fresh wrestlers in the title matches next year. And Evan Bourne better be on the card also.
Cassandra Lemoine of Breaux Bridge, La. (7.0): Best Match: Taker vs. HBK. Worst Match: Divas Battle Royal, JBL vs. Rey Rey, missing Tag match. I thought it was a good idea to start WrestleMania with The MITB. It did help to get people in the right mood, but I am not sure about them giving the win to Punk. The Divas match could have been so much better, but when Santino started his antics on Raw, I figured something bad would go down. As time went on, I keep wondering when they were going to show the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship Lumberjack match between Miz & Morrison and The Colons, but it never did happen. I suppose it will turn up on the DVD. But this is just another slap in the face to the tag team holders. I could tell right off the bat that the JBL vs. Rey match was going to be fast. A very strange match indeed. JBL quitting? We shall see. Taker vs. HBK will probably go down as one of the great WrestleMania matches of all-time. They took it back and forth for all it's worth. And the fall that Taker took was epic. I was amazed that he even got back up from it. The rest of matches were bland to me. And except for the Taker-Michaels match and Austin coming out, the crowd was quiet.
