-- 8/17 WWE Raw Reax
John of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Sportswriter (6.0): Best: Legacy attacks DX. Worst: Chavo vs. Hornswoggle. This build for Summerslam on the Raw brand is not something that made me want to buy this PPV. Smackdown has by far done the best buildup, especially with the newly turned heel C.M. Punk vs. Jeff Hardy for the World Title. Years ago, when WWE had build-up like the Megapowers vs. the Megabucks, Rock vs. Triple H, and others, it made you want to buy the PPV. Summerslam was treated as one of the big four PPVs. I liked the out-of-nowhere blindsiding of DX by DiBiase and Rhodes, but you know it's only to give them some rub because you know DX will get the victory. The Miz is gold as a heel. Why not Miz vs. Triple H? Poor Chavo. He gets so little heel heat. Only highlight was the St. Louis crowd chanting, "Let's go Blues!" Hornswoggle and Mark Henry make an interesting combo. Too bad they can't bring back Mae Young to have another baby. I'm disappointed in the booking of MVP as a stagnant face. Thought he would have gotten the next mega push for a babyface when Batista went down and MVP called out Randy Orton. Now's he's mid-carding it with Jack Swagger and Chris Masters. Why is Evan Bourne even on Raw? Smackdown would have been a better fit. Liked the opening segment with Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Orton. Was looking for the RKO, but his side backbreaker was even more lethal. But you knew Prinze would return. Why not the Sign Guy as the GM for a night? Enough of the celebrities. Did notice the sign in the front, "Thank You Lilian." She is the classiest lady on the WWE roster. She is going to be missed. I see a heel turn from Mickie James. Don't see Cena winning on Sunday. Orton is so hot as a heel champ, but where's the next face challenger? Will be watching baseball Sunday instead of Summerslam. Sorry, Vinnie.
Goiter Kalnoky, Third Wave Poet and Skachillian of Keasbey, N.J. (3.0): Best: Carlito vs. Kofi. Worst: abandonment of logical progression. After they hit rock bottom over the last few weeks, Raw had no place to go but up (or stay at the bottom with Impact!). In watching this, it seemed as if the writers basically just infused more action into the same lame concepts. Kudos to Creative for figuring out a way to make two of their top Divas boring. Carlito vs. Kofi was a bright spot, and I think it would be cool to see some freshness added to the U.S. Title picture. Even though he looked better than when he got squashed by Swagger, it is sad that Bourne is continuing to get buried. The guy can't even get a good match in front of his home crowd. It was also good to see Legacy get up on the immortal DX. Two places to go with this. Either (1) DX jobs and elevates Legacy and still gives the fans good matches or (2) Legacy gets buried. Obviously #1 would be better, but it is likely that #2 will happen. And did I miss something? When did Legacy get tough? It seems to me that not too long ago, all three Legacy members were taken out on separate occasions by Triple H and by Super Shane. I guess we are supposed to forget about that? No room for sense or logic here. Horny vs. Chavo again? Ummm, No. They ought to formally name this dreadful series of matches "Intermission" so fans know when to get up to hit the bathroom or grab a beer. The Main Event was bad. Just bad. Jericho and Show give Orton the extended beat down, and Cena is begging to tag in? Why would he not want his SummerFest opponent to be weakened a bit? Doesn't he hate Orton? Why the passion to get in there? No room for logic or sense here either. In summary, if the past few weeks of Raw were like having your wisdom teeth extracted, this week was like a simple root canal.
