Luke Fleeman of Tulare, Calif. (6.0): Best Match: John Cena vs. Sheamus. Worst Match: Mickie James vs. Michelle McCool. This was a decent pay-per-view. Like Survivor Series, the matches, action, and booking were all fine, but there were no outstanding, incredible, have-to-see-this moments. The matches were held back by having too many choreographed spots where you had to wait and watch them stall while they set up a spot. Christian vs. Shelton was fine, with some creative ladder uses, but it felt too produced and overly-prepared. John Morrison's dazzling getup is starting to make him look like the Adam Lambert of the WWE. Sheamus and Cena had a good match, which protected Cena even though he lost. I was skeptical of the Sheamus push, but I am willing to admit Wade Keller was right, and that it was a good idea to give Sheamus a chance. DX predictably won in HBK's hometown. Overall, the PPV was fine and entertaining, but lacked that big moment to make it feel like a special event.
Henry Jenkins of Seattle, Wash. (4.0): Best: Kofi Kingston vs. Randy Orton. Worst: WWE Title match finish. I'm still in shock. No, not by Sheamus's title win, but by Striker's conversation-stopping Pee Wee Herman reference. "There may not be a bicycle in the basement of the Alamo, but there's still fight in Kofi Kingston!" That was hilariously random. Anyway, I love the way Kofi Kingston stood up to Legacy. Sure, he lost. But who cares? He looked fearless. I bought it. Kofi and Orton have a great contrast in styles, too. They should work together a lot more. On the other hand, the WWE Title changed hands in a table match? Oh no you didn't, Vince! I don't know who looks worse - the champion who's too weak to get a pinfall or the writer who portrayed him that way. Sheamus himself has got the right stuff to be a second-tier main event talent. He has some vicious power moves and a unique personality. His one problem could be easily fixed: when he talks, he doesn't emphasize lines. He rambles at a consistent tone and volume, so I tune him out like a teacher. I just wish they would have let him develop for six more months before they gave him a WWE Title win that needs an asterisk in the record books. Shades of Vince Russo in San Antonio tonight!
Spencer Parente of Boston, Mass. (7.5): Best Match: Orton vs. Kofi. Worst Match: Batista vs. Undertaker. Good PPV overall. No match was really a stinker and I had at least some interest to see every one. I think Benjamin vs. Christian was a match WWE failed to capitalize on. They should have showed off Benjamin more in a longer match. I also would have liked them to keep with the theme of young stars rising to the top and given Shelton the belt. Morrison vs. McIntyre wasn't bad. I hope Morrison dropping the belt means he's moving on to the World Title picture. No need to talk about the women's match other than Mickie James fat jokes need to stop. John Cena dropping the belt was a good move. There is no interest in a Cena match if you don't really think there is a chance of him losing. I think a lot of fans were happy to see that result, even if it was a silly tables match. I doubt if Sheamus will hold onto the title past No Way Out, though. Undertaker vs. Batista was a bit slow. I'm shocked they didn't give Dave the win with Undertaker's health problems. With a rumored Cena vs. Undertaker match-up at Mania, he won't hold onto the title much longer either. Orton vs. Kofi was much better than I expected. Some good action and it was really nice to see Orton get a win without Legacy. It also showed what a great in-ring wrestler he can be when he's not dragged down by gimmick weapon matches or the slow clunky style of Cena or Triple H. The main event with DX and JeriShow was good. However, the tag belts should belong to up-and-coming stars, not main even veterans.
