-- 12/14 WWE Raw Reax
Spencer Parente of Boston, Mass. (1.5): Best Match: Orton vs. Cena (by default). Worst: Anything with Dennis Miller. Well, WWE had me going there for a minute. I actually thought they were going shake things up and elevate new stars. Turns out Sheamus winning the title was only a cheap ploy to make John Cena look more like the Greek hero/Superman warrior with this new horrible storyline. I thought his promo after beating Punk was one of the most painful, fake, unwatchable moments I've seen all year. Cena will crush opponent after opponent and eventually bury Shamus back to mid-card status before WrestleMania. What else did we learn tonight? C.M. Punk is continuing a steep crash, Kofi looks like he's taking a step down to feud with Legacy instead of Orton, Raw lost a great heel in Jericho, one of the greatest superstars of all-time Shawn Michaels is now in a long-running feud with a midget, Even Bourne is the new Jamie Noble/Jimmy Wang Yang, and great talents like Jack Swagger can't even find air-time on a three-hour show. Way to kill any momentum you man have had from TLC, WWE.
Jonathan in Colorado (3.0): Best: Bret Hart tease. Worst: DX-JeriShow tag. Is WWE trying to get me to "Cross the Line" to TNA? Ever since TNA announced they were going live on Monday, January 4, Raw has sucked big time. I loved the Bret Hart tease and hope he will be a guest host. DX screwing Jericho was a big mistake on WWE's part. Jericho said it best on his way out: "You guys need me." He made that show most weeks, and his exit out the door reminded me of the way Bobby Heenan left years ago. Why bring out the Divas if only two are going to wrestle? Big Dick Johnson needs to go, like five years ago. I thought WWE was PG? Yet here he comes out dressed like that. Half the wrestlers that were on the show either the audience didn't know or just didn't care about. WWE is digging themselves a hole that they might never get out of. Sheamus just doesn't come across like a champ. I am all for them pushing new stars, but they need to do it right. Where was Swagger? And the bit Michael Cole said about Jim Ross might be a seed for JR to come back to Raw. This show was three hours too long.
Joe Malan of Enid, Okla. (2.5): Best: Tie between Cena-Orton and Tony Atlas. Worst: Dennis Miller. This show was, well, not very good at all. Dennis Miller was horrible. I don't mean he's a horrible human being by any means, but his many jokes fell flat with the live audience. I'm aware that half the blame can be place directly on the audience, though, and Vince was correct for calling them out on it. As far as the Slammy's go, I think the WWE made mostly the right decisions: JeriShow as Best Tag Team, Sheamus as Breakthrough Star of the Year, and Taker-Michaels as Best Match of the Year. I may be tardy for the party, but I think I'm finally getting tired of John Cena's "rah rah" crap every stinkin' show. I mean, the guy's entire gimmick is never backing down from a challenge - other than that, there's no story behind his character. Now I can see why he's constantly booed by the older generation. Worse yet, you know now that Cena's going to win up until WrestleMania, so why should I bother to watch any of his matches? Another bad move on the show was the way Jericho was kicked off of Raw. Yes, I realize his character is a weasely, arrogant prick, and DX outsmarted him, but come on. That's not the way Jericho deserved to go. It felt like they were sending him off to an island nation to be imprisoned. The only saving graces to this show were the Orton-Cena match, Tony Atlas, and Michael Cole's reaction to winning his Slammy. Other than that, I think this is the worst three-hour show the company has ever produced.
