WWE Tribute to the Troops/Smackdown TV Reax: "It's always great to have a show dedicated to focusing on the troops"

-- 12/19 WWE "Tribute to the Troops" on NBC Reax

Alex Mobley of Louisville, Ky. (10.0): Best: Troops. Worst: Nothing. Whatever you feel about WWE, this is a great thing they do. The funniest thing was a troop taking a thing of dip in front of C.M. Punk. The only thing bad about the show was the inconsistency from the announcing. Michael Cole said he was broadcasting from the WWE headquarters, yet in the first match, he said he talked to a captain before the show, then he said he saw a soldier take the apple from Carlito. How did you see that if you're in Connecticut? That's my only complaint. Great show for WWE. It's always great to have a show like this for the troops.

-- 12/18 WWE Smackdown Reax

John of Cocoa Beach, Fla., writer (6.5): Best: Rey vs. Batista. Worst: Re-run of DX Christmas commercial. A typical Friday Night Smackdown with some good wrestling and backstage work. The opening segment had Batista in his element as a heel bullying Teddy Long only to have Rey Mysterio come to the rescue. This heel turn for Batista has re-energized his character, yet I don't see all the changes I hoped for. They need to remix the "I Walk Alone" entrance music, have Batista jaw more with the fans, and bring out a new finisher. The surprise was Rey won the #1 contender match, yet I suspect that Batista will interfere in the championship match on the next Smackdown. The six-man tag was fairly good. Drew McIntyre looks like a cross between The Brian Kendrick and Edge with even more arrogance. But what's happened to CM Punk's heel standing? He was the top heel until Batista turned, now he's mopping up in six-man tag matches? I enjoyed Matt Striker's line describing Punk as the, "Smackdown Surgeon General." I'm happy the Hart Dynasty's getting a push and Natalya got some microphone time. A Hart Dynasty face turn with a feud against Croft and Barreta from ECW would be something new, unlike the DX and Hart Dynasty feud we're going to get. The Vickie-Escobar storyline is just the same typical heel authority figure punishing a face character, but Escobar isn't exactly a hot babyface right now, and Kane is the truest definition of a tweener. Thankfully, there was some entertaining promo work from Chris Jericho, who carried Great Khali. He still can't wrestle, but he's very slightly better than Giant Gonzales was. Concerning WWE's wannabe Beautiful People, Michelle McCool and Layla, wasn't making fun of large girls done a while back on TNA with Awesome Kong? I'm looking forward to 2010. Edge, please come back soon, but not until you're healthy. When Batista gets the title back, an Edge-Batista feud would be worth looking forward to, but not another Khali-Batista feud.
