-- 12/21 WWE Raw Reax
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (1.0) Best: Orton/Rhodes/DiBiase vs. Kofi/Henry/Bourne. Worst: rest of show. I came into Raw in a bit of a foul mood. I pick up a copy of Pro Wrestling Illustrated and Triple has been honored as Wrestler Of The Decade. I scratched my head because while he took the top honors, Shawn Michaels swept just about just everything else underneath him. Regardless of the lackluster opinion I have of Triple H, what did I see on Raw from both of them? A complete cluster involving Hornswoggle. This completely undid the re-match challenge Shawn made to Undertaker. The Santa stuff was okay, but there were just too many segments. Cena wasn't going to lose, but was enough of a case made for Swagger? An odd thumbs-up after the match from Cena may have answered that. It didn't look related to Cena celebrating keeping his streak alive. Hmmm... Carlito vs. Masters wasn't given a chance in 2006; don't think it will get a chance in 2009. MVP wasn't given a chance, period. The only saving grace was the Team Legacy vs. Team Kofi match. I'm glad there was some serious focus put on Bourne, but I don't think there will be much follow-up. I know it's the holidays, but I felt I got a lump of coal in my stocking with this show.
Roy Murphy of Kansas City, Kan. (0.0): I'm an old-school fan trying my best to get back into wrestling, but how can I? I did everything I could to enjoy this Raw, but it just didn't happen. I sat through every painful minute of the show and I must say this product is no longer aimed at real wrestling fans. This is a children's "comedy" show and we're all wasting our time watching it and waiting for something special to happen.
Jeff Block of Pittsburgh, Pa. (1.0): Best Match: Cena vs. Swagger. Worst Match: Divas. That whole DX disaster was horrid and I kept wondering why DX was quivering in fear to the little people. Again, with the references to the little people, they basically compared them to Chia Pets or something of a toy/puppet nature instead of real people. Lawler and Cole giggling like pre-teen girls through the whole thing was awful as well. The Tiger/golf parts were horrible and I wonder if most people got the reference. Giving the Divas two minutes was two minutes too much. Chris Masters is a one-trick pony who is falling flat so far as evidenced by his "Rob Conway pop" both before and after his match. Now, onto the good...The Cena-Swagger match was good with Cena selling well for Swagger. The finish was never in question, but it built up Swagger. The mixed tag match had good moments and kept the Kingston-Orton feud alive. I was happy to see IRS under the Santa suit and was waiting for the tax remarks. It took me back, as did Dusty's polka dot, although that was an awful time in Dusty's career. Mae Young almost had a wardrobe malfunction and Santino is still amusing, albeit slightly less each time. I wonder if he will ever regain any bit of credibility as a wrestler again? I guess creative was on vacation, so this show seemed to just be thrown together.
Kristin H. of Pensacola, Fla. (5.0): Best Match: Legacy vs. Kofi & Evan & Mark Henry. Worst: Everything else. My Raw rating is a little generous, I know, but it's the holidays and Legacy had a good match even though they lost. This was by far my favorite match of the night. I was glad Evan got in some offense for a change and was able to do his finisher. I also liked Cena vs. Swagger, even though I already knew the outcome. I'm glad Swagger got to showcase some of his skills and Cena didn't completely squash him. DX just needs to go into a long winter hibernation and never wake up! I teach pre-school and my pre-schoolers keep me laughing more than DX. After this episode, I just felt embarrassed for HBK and Jericho. I honestly don't know what to say, except this guest host thing has got to go.
