-- 12/21 WWE Raw Reax
Jordan Johnson of Fort Hood, Tex. (n/a): Best Match: Legacy vs. Henry/Kingston/Bourne. Worst Match: Masters vs. Carlito. Look, I'm not one of those people that hate on wrestling all of the time. I love WWE and have been a fan for over two decades. I watch because I enjoy and plan my Mondays around Raw. With that being said, I think this was the worst Raw I've seen since pre-Attitude Era. Damon wasn't smooth at all and was hardly seen. That's fine because he was out of his element, but if he's there, WWE might as well use him. I have no idea why they'd push Masters over Carlito. I'm no physical freak, but I can make my pecs bounce too! I gave the show a n/a rating because I didn't watch all of the show. I had to turn every time the DX court segments were on. I turned it when Cena came out because I know he's not going to lose any time soon. I was worried when there was no main event announced, but got very happy when I saw Show and Jericho come out. From there, it was straight down hill. I wrote after the TLC PPV that I was happy for Monday Night Football whenever DX came out. I wasn't lying. I had it on ESPN every time the DX crap was going on. For WWE to make me turn the channel, a die-hard fan, that's when you know the show is unwatchable. After reading the ECW and Smackdown spoilers, I can safely say Raw will be far and away the worst show this week.
Mike R. of Dayton, Ohio (2.0): I work second shift at a factory and since I'm on Holiday Break, this was one of the few Raws I've been able to watch live. I've been watching wrestling since around 1986 and seen/put up with a lot of crappy segments, but DX made me embarrassed to be a fan. I had a friend who was "little" and I'm sure she would've been offended by the skits. Granted, wrestling has always treated "little people" as comedy, but this was bottom of the barrel. The Tiger Woods thing was kind of funny, but should have been done a few weeks back. It's sad when I can switch channels and be thoroughly entertained by 30 minutes of the "Family Guy" ten times more than two hours of wrestling. I really hope TNA and UFC force WWE to put out a great product in January or I'm considering taking the advice of other disgruntled viewers and taking Raw off my DVR list.
Barrie of Edinburgh, Scotland (1.0): Only Cena vs. Swagger was worth watching. The rest of this two-hour shambles is beyond description. Since when did making small people jokes become suitable for a PG audience? We're getting horribly close to "Shockmaster" territory. What concerns me most is WWE's choice of guest hosts. Dennis Miller, who? Bob Barker, who? Jonny Damon, who? No one outside of North America knows who these guys are. They need to jettison the guest host concept fast or Raw will alienate their global market. The product stinks.
Patrick Michael of Rochester, N.Y. (2.0): With seven weeks to really build the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Vince McMahon and the writers treated this show as just another throwaway program. WWE is obviously on cruise control at this point until the January 4 Raw when they begin to set up the Royal Rumble. WWE is a company, much like TNA, that seems to have no real direction and no strategic build they are aiming for with a payoff for fans. The wrestling on the show was atrocious except for the six-man tag of Legacy vs. Kingston/Henry/Bourne and the surprisingly good Cena vs. Swagger match. The DX dominance of every show has really started to wear thin and the response of the crowd at the end of the show proved that even those live at the events don't seem to care much for anything they do. It's unfortunate. Michaels and Hunter can both work excellent matches when called upon. The lack of ingenuity among the writers was never more apparent. Hopefully WWE can really get into gear on January 4, as 2009 is ending with a limp to the finish line.
