Today's "Torch Reader Question of the Day" is a Christmas Wish List for 2010 in pro wrestling. The following is our second batch of Wish Lists. You can submit your Wish List to pwtorch@gmail.com.
-- Justin Shook, Torch reader
(1) I want to see TNA rise up to the level that WWE is on now. This will elevate WWE and TNA.
(2) I want to see RVD return to TNA and feud with A.J. Styles.
(3) I want Jim Ross on TNA.
(4) I want Michael Cole to take a long walk and get lost forever.
(5) NO MORE PG. I want wrestling, not campy comedy skits.
(6) I want DX to end so that Shawn Michaels can return to his former greatness. HBK vs. John Morrison, HBK vs. Kofi Kingston, HBK vs. A.J. Styles (a man can dream!)
-- Jordan Johnson of Muncie, Ind.
(1) DX dissolves. Triple H went from being one of my favorites throughout the first half of the decade to being almost unwatchable for the last couple years. Is this really how HBK wants to spend his remaining years? Look at the Matches of the Decade poll - he was in half of those matches.
(2) More surprises. Sheamus beating Cena for the title was unexpected. I remember watching it live and thinking "this is a memorable moment." If the predicted outcome had happened, I doubt I'd even remember that match that just happened a couple weeks ago. Another added benefit in that match was Cena lost, which brings me to my next wish...
(3) Cena will retire from wrestling. Obviously this won't happen, but his character is more obnoxious than ever now, which is quite a feat. His speech on Raw after TLC almost made me sick to my stomach. If WWE would take Cena out of the main event scene for a while, use him to help build some stars, and put him in a title match once every three or four months, then I could handle a Cena reign in a couple years.
(4) TNA will have great success on Jan. 4. I have always been a WWE guy. During the Monday Night Wars, I almost always had Raw on, but WCW would often times catch my eye and give me an alternative if something crappy was on Raw. It was great competition for WWE, which only made them stronger. Seeing the wrestlers switch companies because they want to will be awesome to watch. I hope TNA can pick up the ball and run with it.
(5) Chris Jericho have the best year of his career. Jericho is creeping closer to 40 and showed during his hiatus from the company that he isn't going to be someone that sticks around forever. 2010 might be Jericho's last full year of being healthy, able and willing to carry the company on his back. We all know he is going to feud with Edge at WrestleMania if Edge is healthy by then. Other people I'd like to see Jericho feud with includes Christian, Orton, Punk, and Morrison.
I wanted to limit myself to five wishes, but here are some honorable mentions:
-Christian gets away from ECW and become the main event player he can and should be...DX vs. Undertaker/Kane at WM. ... Shelton, Carlito, and Morrison become full time main event stars. ... Kurt Angle comes back to WWE.
-- Wyatt Lowe, Wrestling fan who really misses pro wrestling having actual wrestling
(1) Guest host and "celebrity" guests disappear forever. If I don't want to watch Jeremy Piven movies, why do I want to watch him waste 20 minutes of my time during my two hours on Mondays? I want to enjoy, no matter how silly the "writers" think it is, actually understanding why someone gets a title shot.
(2) PG doesn't mean midgets, calling women "piggy," and referring to other wrestlers as "dorks."
(3) Move Christian to Smackdown.
(4) Austin Aries signs with WWE. He is more entertaining in his intros that Mark Henry is in a ten-minute match.
(5) RVD signs with TNA.
(6) Stop the chair shots to the head. There are a lot of body parts (just ask Mike Knox). If it's going to KILL your employees, a shot the back is just as believable. If you're going to try to convince viewers that little people alice live under the ring, we'll be happy to suspend disbelief long enough to buy that a chair shot to the back hurts too.
(7) More fan interaction during the matches. Not "Ron Artest fighting in the crowd" interaction, but heels should tell fans to stick it, and faces should fight for their honor.
(8) John Cena heel turn. Even Hogan did it. Seriously, somebody help him beyond his "I just want everyone to love me" complex.
(9) Let wrestlers have more control over their characters.
(10) Lastly, let the young stars put on long matches to see if they can sink or swim. If they fail (looking at you, Eric Escobar), then drop them.
(11) Oh yeah, and I wish Goldust the sex change he's always wanted.
