Hey let's face it, pro wrestling err..sport entertainment isn't as entertaining as it used to be. Which kinda makes you question the E in WWE or the fact that Vince seems to refer to wrestling as only that. The WWE Creative Team have a team of writers that try to pitch ideas and stuff that it's fans would like to see. Many times, they do the opposite and just churn out stuff that Vince likes to see and the product tends to suffer. Other times they actually come up with some great ideas that work and then mysteriously decide to either sabotage it or wipe it off the face of the earth for no apparent reason. Which brings me to the list of things that WWE has horrible dropped the ball on where all that is left for the fan to do is ponder and salivate at the thought of what could've been.
(10) Scrapping the King of The Ring PPV: Yeah sure they bring it up out of the blue from time to time but it meant a heck of a lot more when there was a pay per view built up around the tournament itself with qualifying matches and preliminaries and the like. Now it's blown off in one night cause Raw had a dip in the ratings. Who here remembers who the last King of the Ring winner was? If you know that it was William Regal than second question is: Why even bother caring? The King of The Ring tournament used to be a midcarder's dream. It was a stepping stone into main eventing and being a primier WWE Superstar. Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Bret Hart, Triple H and Stone cold Steve Austin's wrestling careers have benefitted immensely from the tournament. Imagine the wonders it would do for someone like Kofi Kingston, MVP, The Miz, MVP or Sheamus if they brought it back and made it a big deal again.
(9) Santino's Honkometer: At one point in time Santino Marella was THE BEST part of a bad Raw, heck even the best part of a good RAW for that matter. He had captured the IC Title and vowed to hold it longer than Honky Tonk Man's phenomenal reign. As he battled week to week against contender's, his segment was highly entertaining. I'm sure everyone remember his banter and him presenting the Honkometer with its cheesy sound effects. How did it come to an end? An abrupt loss to William Regal, who was doing absolutely nothing at that point in time nor had any heat going in, coming fresh off a mini feud with Jamie Noble. The angle had potential to be great, but like someone not wanting a baby, the WWE pulled out prematurely.
(8) Tag Team Division Development: It seemed that the WWE writers and Vinny Mac were finally ready to elevate the Tag Team Division again. With teams like Carlito and Primo, London and Kendrick, Miz and Morrison, Legacy, and Cryme Tyme things were starting to look up. Notice the teams I listed. Right at the top of their game or when they were starting to become established, most of those teams jumped right into splitsville. WWE just loves pulling the plug early for some reason. Unifying the Tag Titles even seemed like a good idea at first but there's just no established tag teams. And the ones that are tend to get buried by people just thrown together without any experience as a team (Jericho/Show, Batista/Cena etc) WWE needs to start caring more for us to start caring.
(7) Eliminating the Cruiserweight Division: One of the best parts of WCW before it passed away was it's amazing cruiserweight division. WWE could have capitalized on its popularity and it tried numerous times but time and time again the division was sent on a tailspin and Vince McMahon's soft spot for the big and dumb made him put an end to the division. And no it didn't just fade into obscurity, it had to be made a complete joke first! Just how WWE likes it. Put it on Hornswoggle. I've noticed that every angle goes straight to hell the second Hornswoggle becomes involved.
(6) Mid-card Pushes: Here are the casualties of WWE's lack of insight on what the fans want. The Pushes of MVP, Shelton Benjamin, The Miz during his feud with Cena, C.M. Punk, Jeff Hardy, Christian, Mr. Kennedy, Jack Swagger, Carlito, R-Truth, and Matt Hardy were or are all suffering in limbo due to WWE's apprehension to push the GO button on these guys.
(5) ECW (The Brand): Remember when ECW was the recommended show to watch during the week OVER Smackdown and Raw? You know, when someone other than Big Dick Johnson, stephanie McMahon and Michael Hayes were in charge of writing for it? Paul Heyman! Vince decided to give Paul the ball and have him run with it for an hour every tuesday and things were actually looking really good. Remember an ECW Roster with RVD, Sabu, Kurt Angle, newcomer CM Punk, Elijah Burke and a returning Test at the helm? It was great TV for some time despite the Sci Fi references, the awkward Kelly Kelly dances and Vince's influence muddying up the show. Now ECW is considered a complete afterthought.
(4) Taboo Tuesday/Cyber Sunday or whatever you call it: Now this PPV could have been something if WWE wasn't so nitpicky and actually adhered to the concept. Put the fans in charge with their voting. The first time around they did do that somewhat but after that, things were skewed and controlled in such a way that a fan wouldn't even bother voting because the writers already had set in stone what THEY wanted, giving the finger to the fans choice. Tsk tsk tsk, WWE. I didn't know the WWE Universe were following a dictatorship.
(3) Muhammad Hassan: Yes I had to give this man his own category. Now the WWE screws up and comes up with the most idiotic and shameful drivel ever broadcast on TV, but Muhammad Hassan was a breath of fresh air. He had the potential to become the greatest heel ever. The character was on point, he was a mixture of how CM Punk and Chris Jericho's characters are now but with an ethnic twist. He made the fans look like ignorant, prejudice fools. He had money written all over him. People would throw their life savings at the WWE to see him get his ass handed to him. He wasn't the stereotypical caricature "Arabian" wrestler. He was clean cut, wore suits, spoke without an accent and was booed as if he was. His theme music alone just brought that groan to every fan in the arena as he interrupted people at the most inappropriate times. (AH LAY LEE YAH LAY LEE YAH LAYY LEE YAH AH LAYYYYYYYY!) And what does WWE do? Cross the line into tastelessness of course. Hassan didn't need a terrorist element to him. They might as well have strapped a fake bomb to his chest and let him recite the Qur'an before every match, dedicate his match to Allah and pray that a pinfall would mean he would attain his wish of getting 72 virgins, and every other stereotype from what they did. Everything about him worked until they took things the route that they did and they had no choice but to kill him off. Kick yourselves in the ass for that WWE.
(2) Goldberg's run: WWE had Goldberg? I could hardly even remember his tenure in the WWE. That's because there wasn't much of anything memorable about it except for the way his time ended in a match with Lesnar. WWE didn't use him correctly and Goldberg has been vocal about that. Yeah he's a bit of a douche but he's right. WWE had the biggest star that was one of the main reason they were about to go out of business, that was kicking WWE's ass every week for a while and they had him and there wasn't anything worth noting about his time there. Absolutely sad.
(1) The Invasion Angle: This could have been the most monumental, phenomenal angle of all time but fell flatter than your face after Mark Henry has sat on it. Goldberg's run and the Invasion angle pretty much go hand in hand. How the hell could you have the big WWE vs. WCW feud without NWO, Goldberg and Sting? Sure they got NWO after the fact and Goldberg as well but they both would have made a bigger impact in their time in the WWE during the Invasion angle. There were so many directions that the angle could have and should have gone but it didn't. There were so many dream matches that could and should have happened but weren't even pursued. This is by far the single most biggest ball that the WWE has ever dropped in this decade, heck, in its history!
Honorable mention: The Brand split, the NWO, Shawn Michaels 2009 return,Anything Cena
