Friday's "Torch Reader Question of the Day" was a Christmas Wish List for 2010 in pro wrestling. The following is our third batch of Wish Lists. You can submit your Wish List to pwtorch@gmail.com.
-- Pat Wittwer, Torch reader
(1) A lengthy World Title program featuring C.M. Punk, Edge, and Chris Jericho.
(2) More tag teams that have team names and matching colors.
(3) The return of the Cruiserweight division via a tournament featuring Evan Bourne and Kaval in the finals.
(4) HBK-esque breaks for more wrestlers.
(5) Health benefits for the wrestlers.
(6) RVD to TNA. That would make me tune in.
(7) A feud between Triple H and HBK, culminating at WrestleMania, after which both men take a hiatus.
(8) The return of Paul Heyman. No matter where he'd end up, that's what I would watch.
-- Demi of England
(1) Attitude Era back in WWE.
(2) Kurt Angle back in WWE.
(3) Christian on Smackdown.
(4) No more Great Khali.
(5) MVP given more decent matches to show his undoubted skills.
(6) TNA becoming half as good as WCW at their peak and on Mondays to give Raw the kick to the backside it needs.
(7) ECW going back to its original Paul Heyman concept. If Vince wants to keep his two main brands PG, then make ECW hardcore. I want to see tacks, barbed wire, and fake blood.
(8) Also on ECW, get RVD back and make Stone Cold Steve Austin the GM of the brand.
(9) Give Umaga the proper TV memorial that man deserves. He was a champion for crying out loud.
(10) Finally, this has to be done - Vincent Kennedy McMahon takes a step back from creative and controlling the company. I don't see anything wrong with having a team in place counseled and advised by wrestling greats of the past.
-- Craig Wilkinson of Taunton, Massachusetts
(1) Bring back branded PPVs. Defending a title once (or sometimes more) every three weeks rushes things along too quickly and creates sloppy, rushed booking that I don't care about.
(2) The end of PG WWE. Catering to kids creates an unhealthy need for ridiculous skits, focus on merchandise, and pyro to hold their attention.
(3) NO MORE RE-MATCH CLAUSE. Take a page from MMA. If a wrestler loses a title, you have to EARN a title shot again. You have to win a fight or two to be at that level again to be worthy of a title shot. This would force the writers to mix things up with other title contenders already ready to step up for the next defense and would force the creative team to have another athlete ready to take on the champion at the next PPV…which brings me to…
(4) No more title defenses on TV. Save it for the PPV, please. The champion should be regarded as someone special who has earned his place at the top. If a wrestler defends the World Title two or three times a month, just how special is that title?
(5) I would like to see Win/Loss records kept track of yearly. I know this is far-fetched for pro wrestling but, if wrestlers were introduced much like they are in the world of MMA, it would give every match a big match atmosphere. Their records could reset for the year at Draft time. Too bad Evan Bourne would be 2 and 300.
(6) Split up ECW, please. The brand needs to be split and the players need to be drafted to other shows.
(7) Hornswoggle goes the way of the Future Endeavor.
(8) Let wrestlers get some unscripted mic time. Let us get to know who, for example, Evan Bourne is or who Sheamus is. Let the wrestlers shine or fall flat based on their own talents, not outlandish scripts.
(9) Bring back the C.M. Punk of summer 2009. I was totally into his character and the way he constantly got heat. He could’ve done anything and run a program with anyone, but now he’s back to the iron maiden that is the WWE mid-card. C.M. Punk as champion is WWE’s payday (on Smackdown) and they’re not cashing in.
