WWE Raw Reax #1: "They did a better job promoting the January 4 show than they normally do for PPVs"

-- 12/28 WWE Raw Reax

Forrest of Des Moines, Iowa: After watching Raw tonight, I have to say that it was an okay show. It was enjoyable with the best parts being the announcement of Bret Hart returning and the back-and-forth with Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels. After watching that, I realized that TNA is in severe trouble. They're not ready, especially when the single announcement of Bret Hart will trump anything that TNA can do. I'll be watching both shows, but I want to see Hart more then I do anything that Hogan and his washed-up cronies have in store. It hurts me to say that because I was really hoping that TNA could make a mark. They won't, and that day will be the beginning of the end for TNA, in my opinion. And I hate that. They're just in no position to compete and Impact's recent ratings have shown that they have no business on Monday nights yet.

Matthew Robins of Chicago, Ill. (7.5): Best: Monday Nite Jericho. Worst: No Ralphus. A touch of wandering around Baltimore, a splash of wearing Prince Iaukea's Hawaiian Dress, a dash of the rule book with Jo Jo, and the list of all 1,004 Holds - I hate to quote Michael Cole, but "Vintage Jericho!" If Raw had opening credits, Chris Jericho's name would appear first on the screen under "Starring." The only thing missing was "The Brain" sympathizing with "Lionheart." Now then, the rest of the episode was much better than last week and that's with another out-of-place guest host. WWE did a great job making you want to watch next week's show, and that is how it used to and should be. Maryse: I love you! Any time a heel uses a foreign language in a promo, it's guaranteed heat. ... To be honest, as bad as DX was in the backstage segment, when Shawn Michaels uttered Bret Hart's name, I sort of blacked-out for much of the remaining hour-and-a-half. I was coherent, though, seeing the kids with the glowsticks cheering when Vinnie Mac made Bret Hart's return semi-official for next week's Raw. I loved hearing the classic voices of the WWF/WWE in the video package, and I still want a pair of those sunglasses.

Patrick Michael of Rochester, N.Y. (5.0): Raw this week had a lot of energy, but not much in the way of good wrestling. The show was tolerable, as they really only used the show to build up the January 4 Raw. In that sense, Raw had purpose and direction that the company has not had in a long time. They did a better job promoting the January 4 show than they normally do for pay-per-views. The lack of wrestling was appalling, though, with each match going less than five minutes. The Vince McMahon segment was very good, but the crowd yelling killed the heat that he was trying to build. With Shawn Michaels being added into the mix, it really added some intrigue to the storyline and really gave it some heat as evidenced by the live crowd's reaction to Michaels's mysterious insinuation.
