WWE Raw Reax #5: "With Hart and Tyson hosting the last two weeks and Austin coming in March, could HBK's 'closure' be hiding a retirement storyline?"

-- 1/11 WWE Raw Reax

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (7.0): Best: Miz-MVP promo. Worst: Kelly vs. Alicia. For all the talk about the Royal Rumble event, it still feels like WWE is coasting along. There will be the Royal Rumble match, WWE Title, World Hvt. Title, and ECW Title matches. But what else? Raw delivered two short Divas matches, neither of which was very good. We get yet another, though more subtle, tease of a Legacy split. This one might be the one that takes off, but it doesn't feel like the payoff will mean much. A U.S. Title match based off the Miz-MVP promo should be a good one. Both of those guys have come a long way since their starts. That promo shows they're both right at the cusp of a good push upward. Hopefully they won't hit the "Kofi glass ceiling." Kofi's ceiling is positioned higher than most, but the ceiling is clearly still there. The Jericho saga is beginning to get old. He's the new benefactor of the Chavo-Hornswoggle feud. And how did he earn that honor? Can someone please tell me? And who didn't see the Tyson swerve coming? The second that that Shawn put "closure" and Tyson in the same sentence, the fix was in. And why hasn't Undertaker answered Shawn's challenge after this many weeks of asking? I still think it's being steered to something else. Like...didn't Cena just hit the wall on his goal of not losing until he gets the title back? Not one comment about that after the triple threat match. Of course, there will probably be some spin on it. Meanwhile, with Hart and Tyson the last two weeks and Austin coming in March, could Shawn's closure angle be hiding a retirement storyline?

Stephen H. Milford of Pennsylvania (0.1): I fell asleep around the first half-hour into the show. That is how much it keeps my attention right now. I agree with another reader - ditch the guest hosts and the brand split and go back to the way that it was before, possibly with a strong authority figure type. I missed having both shows on this Monday also. At least TNA had me tuned in and interested to what is going to happen this week. Just my opinion, but I think TNA has the momentum right now and is the show to watch, even with the old guys in there.

Joe B. of New Jersey (7.0): Best: Miz-MVP promo. There's a stark difference between Vince Russo's scripted "shoot" promos and what Miz and MVP did on Raw. Jim Ross often speaks about building your character from within, and that is what these men did, and it was a spectacular success. As far as guest hosts go, I found Mike Tyson entertaining, and in his heel promos he, too, did a great job. My DVR didn't get the over-run of him & Jericho vs. DX, so I thankfully missed the Hornswoggle non-sense. Jericho shouldn't have been there, but as usual he delivered. It was quite a night for old school heel promos and actions. Swagger showed fire in a non-sensical loss, and Legacy successfully interfered for Orton like a classic heel team would. Another rising star, Kofi, did well in the three-way, and as much as I admire Cena's work ethic, he's just been too overexposed. There was plenty not to like about Raw, but for some reason, despite the storylines or lack thereof, a lot of the guys stepped it up.
