-- 1/14 TNA Impact Reax
Thomas Thyssen of Berlin, Germany, editor (8.0): Best Match: Motor City Machine Guns vs. Generation Me. Worst Match: None. The revamped TNA Impact is a lot more to my taste than the same old, same old PG, guest host, and Hornswoggle routine that WWE puts on every Monday night. The biggest advantage of TNA is NOT being PG. It makes a lot (not all) of their characters way more believable. D'Angelo Dinero is one of my new faves (and I wasn't quite fond of him in his Elijah Burke-persona), Desmond Wolfe is a great, great hand (although his new name is still a letdown), Beer Money and the MCMG have to be the two best tag-teams in the business right now, and Daniels, A.J., and Joe will always have a special place in my fan heart. The most compelling, intriguing, and interesting character on TNA television right now has got to be Eazy E, Eric Bischoff, though. I loved him back in the day as the sleazy NWO mastermind. I thought his WWE-run was overshadowed by too much scripting and way too many Vinnie Mac fingerprints, but it seems to me as if this whole new adventure and being back with his Band (which includes the Hulkster), re-lit a fire under his rear end. Whose side is he on? Is he a heel? Is he a face? You know what, it doesn't matter. He's just awesome in his role right now. And I definitely want to know what happens at "Genesis" and the following Impacts. I'll keep my fingers crossed for Scott Hall as well. Here's to this being his last and hopefully great run in a major wrestling company.
Andrew Vincent of St. Catharines, Ont. (7.0): Best Match: Generation Me vs. Guns. Worst: Sean Morley-Daniels. TNA started off with a great match, as the Young Bucks have got to be one the best tag teams we've seen in quite some time and the Machine Guns are right there with them. Fast-paced action, good wrestling moves, and just all-around in-ring excitement displayed what wrestling should be. Samoa Joe vs. Desmond Wolfe was also a pretty good match on the card, but I was surprised that they actually gave Wolfe the clean victory. Wolfe is great, but I'm not sure if Joe taking the loss cleanly means that he's in store for no future push because TNA would be dropping p the ball if that were the case. So, Sean Morley came out to cut a promo and the fans really didn't seem to care, then Daniels came out with a great promo and attacked him. First of all, Morley is a heel and will be the heel no matter what and especially with the re-hashed Val Venis gimmick that even WWE decided didn't want to use, hence his departure. Daniels is so much better than the feud they are giving them. Moving on, Angelina Love's return was a good swerve. I thought Lacey Von Erich was getting kicked out and this was well done and surprisingly interesting. Beer Money vs. Hernandez/Morgan was good until the interruption. Overall, Impact started off well and ended well despite some of the crap I could have done without in between. It was still an all-around pretty good show that hyped this Sunday's pay-per-view.
Sonny of Chicago, Ill., stay-at-home dad (6.5): Best Match: GenMe vs. MCMG. Worst: Nasty Boys on TV. I think the show started off well, but dropped off with some of the storylines that were being advanced. Here's one mistake: Nasty Boys vs. Team 3D on a PPV?! Why not book solid matches through and through on a PPV that is supposed to have a "game changer" debut? I just think that with the talent they have, they could use the Nasty Boys in another capacity. But I digress. I hope the A.J. Styles and Kurt Angle storyline has a payoff at the end, especially with the Naitch looking like he has a role to play. The Knockouts were also used well on Impact and I actually found myself interested in the Mick Foley storyline. But the one thing that has me scratching my head is who this new talent is that Hogan says will be a game-changer. I really hope it's someone worth that advertisement, someone like Edge. If it's another washed-up character like DDP, Sid, Luger, etc., then I'm getting a lawyer and not the one Jeff Jarrett walked in with.
