-- 1/29 WWE Smackdown Reax

Adam J. Grammas of Westchester, Ill. (3.0): Best Match: Main Event of HBK vs. Rey. Worst: R-Truth victory. Well, first, we had the tag title match-turned singles match, which had Triple H seemingly getting legit upset when Sinead O'Conner couldn't jump on his back. And then Punk was knocked down by one HBK punch long enough for DX to work over Gallows. I can't believe heel announcer Striker would say he goes around humming R-Truth's theme song. With the way Morrison is getting destroyed in his feud against Drew McIntyre, I hope he's "jobbing his way to the top" the way Bret Hart sometimes had to. If Mickie doesn't get the title this Sunday, she must have really pissed off someone in the back. And what was up with Batista's street clothes backstage? Did he just get back from delivering newspapers in the 1930s?

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (7.0): Best: Michaels vs. Mysterio, Michaels promos. Worst: Michelle vs. "Mickie," sugar-coated Triple H. Striker, I love ya dearly, but I almost went into a diabetic coma from all the sweet love for Triple H. "Father of the Industry?" Really? REALLY? So he is a true-life immortal descended from the Greek Gods to give birth to wrestling in its earliest stages leading to the pro wrestling "industry" as we know it? Wow. Didn't know that. Apparently the comic book storylines are translating to TV. As for the tag title change, I didn't feel any bait and switch because there was no proper build toward the tag match to be baited and switched from. And as expected, Hunter killed what could have been a good piece of tension (savior vs. saved). I will give credit, though, in Triple H countering that he is drug and alcohol free, but someone else should have said that by now. And finally, the term "non-medically" was entered into the storyline. It was about time. Rey getting into Shawn's face was some nice intrigue that needed to happen if the plan (alas) is to stay the course with the Michaels-Taker sequel. But did I not hear what I expected to hear - more boos toward tunnel-visioned Shawn? Shawn's "overrated" comment to Batista later felt like there was more sting in it than intended. ... Why was there no response to Morrison calling out McIntyre for disrespecting the title belt during his celebration? The No DQ match didn't have much in the way of weapons, but the ruthless aggression expressed during the match made up for it. Morrison's loss may be the top tier's gain; at least I'm hoping for that. The Michelle-"Mickie" thing was a well-meaning chapter that went a few pages too long. I expected non-clean finishes for both Hunter-Punk and Michaels-Mysterio, but I just felt ego all over the Hunter-Punk match. Michaels-Mysterio was fine for most of it, then there were obvious moments where they hit the brakes as both the live and TV crowds were waiting for the payoff. Unlike Raw, at least the right person - the show's champion - stood tall on the lead-in show if the "Rumble Riot" wasn't going to be used.
