WWE Smackdown Reax #1: "I liked everything about Swagger's title win other than it coming at Jericho's expense"

-- 4/2 WWE Smackdown Reax

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (10.0): Best: Swagger elevated; Jericho and Punk promos. Worst: Morrison/Truth vs. Cryme Tyme; Khali retires. The spoilers only gave the specific details that Jack Swagger cashed in his Money in the Bank case. TV didn't do justice to the Thomas And Mack's reaction to the moment as it happened. Nor did TV do justice to the Jericho, Swagger, and Punk promos. The boos were deafening live. In stark contrast, you could hear a pin drop with Great Khali's post-match vow to re-group and return. After Shawn Michaels's heartfelt and inspiring goodbye, Khali's "goodbye for now" landed with a hard thud. Maybe now Dolph can go on to better things. After meeting John Morrison earlier on Tuesday at an autograph signing, I was very disappointed he and Truth barely got any TV time. Plus, Truth's entrance was dubbed, as he came out with a dead mic. On top of tha, it led to the never-built-up moment of Shad turning on JTG. The crowd around me was taken out of that moment, too. McIntyre-Hardy didn't make a lot of sense, either, but at least there was the fact that no actual match took place. Kane being bored is probably an understatement. Pitting him against the NXT guys gave the Rookies some helpful TV time, but it will mean nothing if it isn't followed up on Tuesday. Jack Swagger really stepped it up when given the chance to go for it. His body language showed confidence, and he held his own on the mic alone and with Edge and Jericho. Jack Swagger is where he belongs. What the TV crowd didn't see was the Punk vs. Undertaker dark match. It had been booked during the commercial break following Punk's promo. This was another case of stark contrast, as Punk provided a lot of movement during this match. Even more, Undertaker could clearly be seen trying to pound the feeling into his left leg prior to the match (major cue this was a dark match). The match ended with Gallows earning a chokeslam for his attempted interference, and Punk was pinned after two Tombstones. Watching Undertaker in legit pain and needing help to carry through a match makes me feel like the wrong man retired on Monday.

Vincent Bellino, Torch reader: Best Match: Swagger cashes in/Divas match. Worst: Everything else. Wow, horrid episode. McIntyre vs. Hardy wasn't even a match. What does WWE see in him? Ziggler had a decent match with Khali and hopefully the knockout gives him a good rub. Kane vs. The Rookies was a mess, but that missile dropkick by Daniel Bryan was sick. The Divas match was surprisingly good. I enjoy watching Tiffany and Beth Phoenix is very talented. LayCool sucks, though, as the double facecrusher was the worst botch that I've ever seen. Vickie's new role sucks. Swagger cashing in was awesome and he got plenty of exposure. Overall, a disappointing show. I thought it was the worst episode that I've seen since I started watching Smackdown.

Justin James of Columbia, S.C., IT professional, author (7.0): Best: Kane vs. NXT Rookies. Worst: Kane vs. NXT Rookies. The show was really mixed. It definitely reset the storylines across the board. The expected Edge-Jericho program is delayed by the Swagger title reign, derailed, or will be turned into a triple threat scenario. I liked everything about Swagger getting the Title, other than it coming at Jericho's expense; Swagger's either going to end up looking like a chump (again) at the end of this, or Jericho is getting the short end of the stick. I thought that Swagger did a good job throughout the show establishing his character. There was no actual wrestling on the show to speak of, other than the awful handicap match, which is why I rated it "best" and "worst." The Divas tag match we have seen before - too many times already. Phoenix/Tiffany vs. Team LayCool already feels like Cryme Tyme vs. Hart Dynasty. The Hart Dynasty's face turn is hilarious because a week ago they were the Keystone Kops; they couldn't even win when they cheated against Cryme Tyme. Less than seven days later, they are beloved and winning matches left and right. I'm happy, just because I like them, particularly Tyson Kidd and Natalya. The Cryme Tyme breakup was so poorly handled; there was zero build-up or explanation, and the post-match interview did not make any sense at all. C.M. Punk delivered another good promo, and it is nice to see the feud progress; hopefully Punk and Rey Mysterio will get more than seven minutes in the ring at Extreme Rules. I loved the ending to the show with Jericho playing his role to perfection and Swagger getting plenty of rub. Swagger looked stronger as a champion in two hours of Smackdown than Sheamus did in months on Raw. And for all of those who say Jack isn't ready, just remember the items in the Torch from a year ago when folks were begging for a Swagger push and then the disappointed when it didn't happen. I'd rather have an unprepared Swagger than yet another run by the "usual suspects."
