Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (7.0): Best: Orton vs. Swagger. Worst: Kofi vs. Sheamus (plus post-match). Going into the show, I expected a bad case of empty nest syndrome despite a roster full of wrestlers putting forth effort. Empty doesn't begin to describe tonight's show. You know it's bad when the real best thing on the show was the replay of Shawn saying good-bye last Monday. Moving on, I question Jack Swagger's loss to Randy Orton so soon after cashing in the MITB case, but the match with Orton could be considered a simple test match. Unlike Sheamus with Kofi, Orton didn't squash Swagger. ... Gee, wow, the tension between father and son, Ted DiBiase, leads to...the re-introduction of the Million Dollar Title? I can just imagine Cody returning to compete for it. I'm rolling my eyes on the thought. Batista picking up the pieces fit the storyline with Cena. We've washed, rinsed, and now we repeat, just adding that this time it's Last Man Standing. How, if at all, is Otunga's leaving Cena to the wolves going to be followed up on NXT? Wouldn't a title win mean a contract and possibly a way out of NXT? That move makes David Otunga look like a complete buffoon for not thinking about the upgrade in profile. And is it just me or did Dave Batista come across as soft when politely demanding his spotlight?
Jeff Block of Pittsburgh, Pa. (1.0): Best Match: None. Worst Match: Divas battle royal. This was a horrible show and totally useless. Apparently Otunga spent more time getting his hair cut into silly words than creative spent on this show. Otunga bored me and all the supposed forthcoming swerve stuff was seen miles away. Obviously, Sheamus was not working with Kofi for anything other than to get Triple H on screen. The tag matches were ridiculous and anyone that has watched this crap for a bit knows the major players and if they are not in the current match then the match is a throwaway for what is to come. The Divas are an absolute total waste of time and Vince apparently agrees. Geez, I remember when there was actual wrestling on Monday Night Raw. Just an abhorrent episode. I can't wait for Hasselhoff next week to see if there are any cheap shots of him demanding an exact amount of green jello shots.
-- 4/5 TNA Impact Reax
Arturo R. Garcia of San Diego, Calif., freelance writer (0.0): The final segment was the creepiest thing I've ever seen on a pro wrestling program - and that covers some ground. I know Daffney's character isn't "supposed" to like the idea of stripping, but the reactions from the audience and the announce team took things to a disturbing new level of misogyny for both Vince Russo as a television writer and Impact as a show. Moreover, the Lockbox concept took TNA's most competitive division and reduced it to a game-show for the sake of a cheap over-run rating.
Nicolas Ramirez V. of Chile (1.0): Best Match: Nothing. Worst: Everything. I thought this was an awful, awful show. Apparently TNA found out that the Knockouts = ratings. So what did they do? Open and close the show with them. While I understand that logic (barely), it's amazing to me the stupidity of how everything was put together. The show started with a talking segment of a bunch of rules for a "match." Hogan/Abyss are in the ring, Beer Money attacks them, and to save the day, Hardy & RVD appear through the crowd after fighting off innocent tourists on their way down. This was followed with Rob Terry and his trademark offense to squash Homicide before he took an unprotected chairshot, followed by Orlando Jordan amusing himself. If that wasn't enough, Shannon Moore continues to be pushed and is still the Prince of Weirdness. (Where is C.M. Punk when you need him?) Then, Angle took his neck on a nice ride in a ladder match... for a key...that opens the door to a cage match at Lockdown...which really isn't necessary because you can still win by just climbing out. The Band is still around with the "rating killer" Bubba, so I change the channel. Finally, the "ratings Divas" were in action for some elimination match with too many rules to follow. But what the hell, at the end of the night, the Knockouts Title changes hands by picking the right box. Wait, what? Yes, that was the dumbest way to do a title change: Bingo. Where's Howie Mandel? Finally, Russo get his crash TV variety show and after watching this crap, we are all the more stupid.
