Monday Night Reax #1: "Impact was a hot-shot booked show, but it worked this week"

-- 4/19 Raw & Impact Reax

Arturo R. Garcia of San Diego, Calif. (Raw 2.0): Impact was the better show tonight, period. What could have been a cool little hot-shot angle for WWE - "Monday Night Smackdown" - was ignored for rambling promos, the return of Hunter the Heat-Killer and a singularly unfunny assortment of guest hosts. Ryan Phillippe looked like he'd rather have been playing Katie Vick. What little good there was came from The Undertaker seemingly trying to honest-to-goodness elevate Jack Swagger just a little before taking the pinfall.

Efren Bojorquez, PWTorch VIP Subscriber of Mesa, Ariz. (TNA 8.0 & Raw 4.0). Impact was a hot-shot booked show, but it worked. TNA put its best foot forward by giving away PPV matches on free TV tonight, but with WWE having an unforeseen off week, the booking worked. You have an A-list star in RVD now at the top and plenty of talent signed to TNA that should finally move them out of second gear. While WWE was put in a bad situation and they deserve credit for offering refunds tonight, tonight's product resembled a very bad house show. You have to wonder if this will be remembered as the night that TNA turned the corner.

-- 4/19 TNA Impact Reax

Michael of Garland, Tex. (8.5): Best Match: RVD vs. A.J. Styles. Worst Match: Knockouts Tag Team Title match. Well, TNA, you finally have our attention. Lockdown, to me, was well worth the money on Sunday and I would have paid to see Impact tonight as well. I like how TNA went against the grain, booking a number one contender match, leading to a title match in the same night, then actually having the guts to make the title change, all without having to charge me to see it, when they could have. TNA seems to have some momentum now, and I am actually excited to see what happens next. My only complaint: Rob Terry. They should just call this guy "The Remote Control," because that is what I reach for whenever I see him. Oh, and we get to see more of Shannon Moore? Give me a break. I think I will watch the WWE Draft next week since TNA seems like they'll be taking a break from their newly discovered winning formula anyway. Also, Taz, We know where Samoa Joe was. In the back of a van! If it doesn't make sense on paper, don't do it. If you do it anyway, it's best to let enough time pass that maybe some people forget about it, which is just what I am willing to do if TNA sticks to the winning formula. See, quid pro quo. You give a little, we forget the stupid stuff.

Forrest of Des Moines, Iowa: I don't know what to say about Impact tonight. There were some fun moments and I have to say it was smart to put the strap on RVD, as he cam help expand the brand. What really killed it for me was the emphasis on Hulk Hogan. The confetti was red and yellow, then Hogan came out to help TNA's newest Knockout Dixie Carter celebrate with RVD. I really wish they would have let this be RVD's moment. The other wrestlers coming out was fine and the Dudleys being there was fitting for the ECW ties. The other thing that ran through my mind is what happens to A.J. Styles. Jeff Jarrett may have been the founder, but A.J. is the heart of TNA. They're trying to re-live the past with money and support after being original and gritty and different in their early days.
