-- 4/25 WWE Extreme Rules PPV Reax
Jeffrey Strahler of Columbus, Ohio, college student (7.5): Best Match: Cena vs. Batista. Worst Match: Tag Team Gauntlet. My expectations going into this PPV weren't very high. Overall, the matches were well done given that they had to stay within the PG rating. The tag team gauntlet to start the PPV was pretty predictable leading to Hart Dynasty getting the win. The cage match with Jericho vs. Edge was very well done, in my opinion. I didn't have a problem with the heel wanting to inflict more punishment by not leaving the cage when he felt he was in total control. One of the biggest disappointments for me was the Orton vs. Swagger match. It was a very tame Extreme Rules match compared to the last one we saw on WWECW. Swagger winning was very appropriate, though. It was nice to see some new talent getting a push. I am not a fan of the new Swagger; he seems like all of the other heels by always looking angry and not showing much enthusiasm. The Divas match was fine for what it was and the strap match was pretty predictable. The Cena vs. Batista match was better than I anticipated. I wasn't enthused for this match and figured it would be pretty lackluster considering how non-extreme the rest of the PPV had been. So, maybe the match was good because my expectations were low, but I truly feel that it was a very exciting match. The ending was great. It was something that I personally had never seen before and actually made me chuckle seeing how pissed Batista was that he had been outsmarted. If nothing else, at least the main event I wasn't looking forward to ending up being much better than I had expected.
Chris of San Jose, Calif. (7.5): Best Match: John Cena vs. Batista. Worst Match: Edge vs. Chris Jericho. The Last Man Standing Match was incredible and the crowd was fired up for the whole match. I credit both Superstars for their storyline work the last three months leading to this match. They really wanted an intense match and I thought both Cena and Batista delivered. The ending was classic and reminded me of "Over the Edge 1998" when Steve Austin used a knocked-out Vince McMahon as referee to make a three-count on Dude Love. I was very disappointed with the Edge-Jericho match because I thought the storytelling was horrible and the cage antics were over-done. Edge is miscast as a babyface and I think he should take time off again before returning as a major heel. The Punk-Mysterio match had some slow points, but overall, I thought it was a fantastic match and I loved the ending with the mystery man. I expect the rubber match to happen at Summerslam with Mysterio taking time off and returning for a five-star match to end the feud. Jack Swagger going over on Randy Orton was the right move and brought credibility back to the World Heavyweight Title belt. The tag team gauntlet was a joke and I was disappointed that John Morrison was put with R-Truth again in a tag team, especially after Morrison's emotional win on Smackdown just two days prior to the PPV. Morrison needs to stay away from tag team competition. ShoMiz is the only tag team that's over with the fans, with Hart Dynasty trying to get there, and they should continue their title reign until some other teams step up. Sheamus was impressive in his dominance over Triple H and I love the character build-up with him as a powerful heel. Overall, a good show and I was happy to see most of the heels defeat the babyfaces.
