-- 8/2 WWE Raw Reax
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.0): Best: Cena vs. Jericho. Worst: Khali vs. DiBiase. Raw was a decent show, but I still think Summerslam isn't being treated as important as it could be. The moment Alicia Fox opened her mouth after the Divas tag match, it dictated something happening: a debut or a return. It's nice to see Melina back, but there still won't be enough ladies to justify a women's division split on Raw and Smackdown. ... Orton's promo reminding viewers of the punt he gave Hunter may have been meant to provide reasonable doubt to Sheamus, but it was immediately met by the thought of "Triple H broke Orton's collarbone." ... I'm surprised the "loser leaves" element of Cena-Jericho wasn't played up further considering that Jericho lost such a match the day after Summerslam 2005. He's a heel, but Jericho's portion of why he'd want Cena off the team could also be because of revenge of the past. It's still looking like Edge and Jericho could make their way back as a team if Triple H's return isn't timed for Summerslam. But if Triple H's return is being part of the team, then who would be #7? The all-but-buried Evan Bourne, who has plenty of reason to be on the team? Nexus looking to recruit Khali by reverse psychology just doesn't work for me, probably more because of Khali's ineptitude than anything else. ... Michael Cole is a great source of go-away heat right now. What makes it worse is that he's still playing heel sidekick to Miz while being face to everything else.
Richard H. of Wilmington, Ohio: A decent progression toward Summerslam. No guest host, only one announced e-mail, and the return of Melina made for some good overall programming. And they even threw in a best match involving The Miz, which only a year ago, I would have deemed as likely as Mark Henry in a best match of a show. Unfortunately, the curiosity that is Khali continues to be what he is - a huge force of nature, freakishly strong, and huge, but no agility whatsoever. Did anyone else notice a slip in the dialogue when Khali seemed to understand some of his "brother's" English? And putting him against the Million Dollar couple (and by couple I mean Maryse and the Million Dollar Belt)? As for the Nexus-Cena feud, of course Jericho and Edge had to be off the team. For one thing, their respective characters are too egotistical and narcissistic to work as a team with other main eventers. For another, every Nexus performer except Wade Barrett is at best a mid-carder at this point, so any team with so many main event stars is a mis-match. With Cena the only real main eventer involved against Nexus, it keeps it believable and gives selected mid-carders a chance to shine on a major PPV. It also sets up the inevitable "Cena lone man standing against Nexus" odds for a Superman type comeback. Unless they stretch this program out even further.
Brett W. Shaff of Minneapolis, Minn.: For the second week in a row, it was stunningly obvious that when Michael Cole was reading the anonymous GM's emails, he was staring at the keyboard area of this "computer." Maybe they should put the script on the screen for him to read rather than taping it to the keyboard. Randy Orton getting steamed at The Miz immediately took me out of the match and made me think (negatively) about Kofi Kingston's push being derailed because he did something minor that got Orton pissed. ... Chris Jericho is the best in the business at what he does, which is to make other people look good and get them over. Orton seems to think they exist to make his spots look better.
-- 8/3 WWE NXT Reax
Rick Gasper, Torch reader: I watched and do watch NXT every week. This week, I actually turned off the TV until he kissing contest was over. I was sickened by the kissing contest and I truly believe if WWE wants NXT to succeed, they need to do something completely different with the show. I would like to see Rookie work-out sessions with the Pros. Also, I would like to see more of the background pieces on the Rookies and see some of their FCW matches.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (1.0): Best: Miz vs. McGillicutty. Worst: opening segment. So much promise was destroyed by a single opening segment. Had something other than what happened in the opening occurred, the rest of the show would have been pretty decent. I'm not keen about Kaval losing to Harris in a worse squash than the previous match between them. The promo between McGillicutty and Cannon was one of the better for Cannon, probably because he isn't focused on the camera. I liked the idea of the Pros critiquing each other, but that time could also have been used to focus on the Rookies. Next week's elimination episode could be interesting, but let's hope they'll be serious next week. No more extended-play Kiss Cams, please.
