Simon Day of London, U.K., business owner (6.0): Best Match: N/A. Worst Match: Angle-Hardy. Regarding the show, I thought the opening segment was absolutely horrible. Dixie Carter is in dire need of some acting lessons. She keeps praising Angle and Hardy to the point where it's making the whole title feud boring. I just don't know who to cheer for at BFG. That is NOT a good position to put the wrestling fan in. Yes, they've had a couple of good matches. Angle, although looking increasingly more banged up, can put on a good (if repetitive) match. Hardy, on the other hand, is just plain sloppy. ... I've heard many negative things about the Dreamer-Fortune promo segment, but I thought it was excellent. And here's why. It was a classic wrestling promo. It told a story, sold the characters, put over the heels, and gave sympathy to the babyface. Okay, so the promo wasn't executed perfectly by either Dreamer or Styles, but it got the crowd involved. My only problem with the segment was, as Wade Keller said, Dreamer talking as if he were something more than he is. ... Generation Me looked like a couple of teenagers trying to act like heels in the school playground, which may or may not work. I'm not really looking forward to their impending feud with the MCMGs either due to their similar styles. ... I'm not against the X Division title change. However, this title change match had no build-up to it. I find that absurd. ... Nash vs. Joe was actually looking like it could be halfway decent until it became a no-contest. ... Angle vs. Hardy was another good match between the two, but another non-finish once again spoiled the match. Mr. Anderson is becoming a forgotten man in this title "feud." I would much prefer the main event at BFG to have just been Anderson vs. Angle. On the whole, a decent show. Please, though, get Dixie off TV.
Brian Harmon of Saint Paul, Minn. (4.0): Best Match: Hardy vs. Angle. Worst Match: Nash vs. Joe. This was the first time I’d given any attention to TNA in quite some time. While there have been some nominal improvements, their overall work remains annoying and not compelling. Is it just me, or did every match except Hardy vs. Angle seem to be in slow motion? The transitions between moves are not crisp, and there’s too much waiting in a prone position before an opponent connects with any offense. Nash, Sting, and Jarrett are especially bad about this. While I like the fact that TNA is not afraid to use the word “wrestling,” they still seem even less interested in it than WWE. ... I see that the misogyny is still alive and well based on Taz’s inappropriate comments about what Madison Rayne would be like “in a relationship.” Finally, someone has to pull the plug on all the self-referential nonsense. Let’s make a rule, shall we? Fans and retired wrestlers are the only people who are allowed to talk about “match quality” or what other wrestlers are like “as performers.” Anyone actively involved in a wrestling promotion is only allowed to talk about winning or losing fights. I do not care about whether TNA is at some “next level” or who’s supposed to be running the company. All that matters is that TNA should be a forum where talented athletes are only interested in winning matches and titles. Period. Overall, there was nothing really horrible about this show, but nothing especially good, either.
Justin Shook, student (7.0): Best: Angle vs. Hardy. Worst. Angle vs. Hardy. I thought this was a solid episode of Impact from top to bottom. Some things worked while others didn't, though. I think they should have kept the X Title on Douglass Williams a while longer, but the match with Lethal was solid, as was the post-match celebration. The Tommy Dreamer segment was gold and established A.J. Styles as the "the man" in Fortune. The main event was an amazing TV match that showed off two of the best in the business doing what they do best. However, the ending was horrible. It hurts the promotion's trust with their viewers when they guarantee a winner and then conclude with a double pin. Why not restart the match? It just didn't make since. It seems the "three-way dance" at BFG was made only to show tension amongst Hogan/Bischoff and Dixie Carter. If that's the case, then what a waste. This viewer isn't interested in seeing another power struggle in TNA. With all that said, the BFG main event has been booked wrong since the start. Angle vs. Hardy should be the main event. I don't view Anderson as being on their level and I think he will cause some viewers to shy away from this PPV. Angle vs. Hardy is a match fans want to see. We want to know who the better man is. Anderson only hurts the main event.
Jim Lex of Cincinnati, Ohio (4.0): Best: Williams vs. Lethal. Worst: Joe vs. Nash. I have a simple summary about Impact. They managed to spend two hours doing absolutely nothing to further anything. The show began with Bischoff making the World Title match a three-way dance. Then, Dixie overruled him and said they needed to have a winner. So, Angle and Hardy wrestled an average match and Bischoff ended up making it a three-way anyways after the match ended in yet another messed up finish. So, there was no point to any of it. Abyss managed to do some more things that didn't matter since no one seemed truly disturbed by it. (I still have no idea why he hasn't been fired or arrested at this point.) Meanwhile, Jay Lethal won the X Title on free TV after literally no attempt to let fans know it would be happening. They also managed to not mention the X Division Title once during the match. I literally forgot it was a title match until the confetti fell from the ceiling. Oh, and now Pope's also mad about something, but refuses to speak in anything but riddles. He'll fit in well with Nash and Sting. Basically, they used this whole episode to plant the obvious idea of a Dixie-Bischoff split somewhere down the road.
