Our long tradition of holding regular "Fantasy Drafts" returns this month. The final tally will be made today, so today is your last chance to vote.

The point of this isn't to win any bets with friends or bragging rights for having the "best roster." It's our way, imperfect as it is, of compiling a collective endorsement of who the major promotions should be pushing the hardest right now and who you'd be better on if your money was on the line.

So I invite all of you to send your ballot featuring your Top Ten Draft Picks to kellerwade@gmail.com. We'll publish the results in these pages in an upcoming issue. Deadline for ballots is Sept. 27 (today!).

Rank them from 1 through 10 in the order that you'd prioritize drafting them if you were starting a wrestling promotion from scratch and wanted to draw the most money in 2010. You are invited to add comments to each pick explaining why you chose them for your list.

You can list tag teams as a single pick if they are an established tag team.

You can favor one particular style over another, a type of wrestler over another. You can draft all heavyweights, all cruiserweights, or even all tag teams, or all women. You pick for youth to build for the future or pick established big stars, or a mix. The idea is in the end, we'll have a list that collectively conveys what PWTorch readers most think would make up an ideal starting roster.

We will compile the results giving 10 points to the top pick in your list, 9 points to the no. 2 pick, and so on down to 1 point for your no. 10 pick. We'll add them all together and then list them in an upcoming edition of the PWTorch Newsletter.

So what future stars do you think should be represented in this year's PWTorch Draft results?

So the rules are simple. Pick wrestlers based on their health and skills today, with some weight at your discretion on their years of productivity that is left balanced against their star power now.

If you had the ability to sign ten wrestlers as the core ten to build around in a promotion you'd run or you'd want to watch, who is that top ten list? Send to kellerwade@gmail.com.

We will publish select reader lists with their comments on their picks this week. The results of the draft will be published in detail (including a Top 50 List and draft-themed columns by the Torch staff) in this week's PWTorch Newsletter (PDF and Print editions) with summary results revealed later this week on PWTorch.com. PWTorch VIP subscribers will also soon have access to a new PWTorch Draft History page featuring the results of all previous drafts and all related staff columns and reader comments associated with each draft.

PAST DRAFT NOTES

The first PWTorch Draft was in 1997. Looking back, there are some sensible names on top of the list, with the top four being Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, Chris Benoit, and Bret Hart.

No. 5 through 10 is a mixed bag in retrospect, beginning with Shane Douglas at no. 5, then Rey Mysterio, The Big Show (then "The Giant" Paul Wight), Ric Flair, Scott Hall, and Kevin Nash. At the time, Douglas, Nash, and Hall were all acts in ECW and WCW respectively. Rey and Show have gone on to be strong top card wrestlers for the 13 years since.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley was down at no. 36, behind Sandman at no. 35, Goldust at no. 31, and Dallas Page at no. 24.

Jumping back just ten years to the 2000 draft, The Rock topped the list, followed by Triple H who leaped in three years to near the top. Then came Chris Jericho, RVD, Chris Benoit, Steve Austin, Goldberg, Mick Foley, Billy Kidman, and Mike Awesome.

Kidman stands out as a head-scratcher in retrospect, but at the time he had the type of matches and buzz that Evan Bourne has now.

Others that jump out are Jerry Lynn as high as no. 24 fresh off a series of hot matches with RVD. Kurt Angle was down at no. 26, debuting on the list that year but not yet established as the future top act he'd become. He was one slot behind Taz and one slot ahead of Kane. Ken Shamrock came in at no. 42. Shane Douglas still made the list, but was at no. 49, one spot ahead of Lance Storm.

Going back just six years to the 2004 draft, Randy Orton seems like a wise pick in retrospect at no. 1. Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Triple H, and A.J. Styles round out the top 5.

The next five were Eddie Guerrero, Angle, Michaels, Matt Hardy, and C.M. Punk. Punk was cementing himself in ROH as a breakout future star thanks to his matches with Samoa Joe and Bryan Danielson.

Shelton Benjamin came in at no. 11, three spots ahead of John Cena, who dropped from no. 6. I wrote: "Mediocre matches and a drop in mic work took a toll on this one-time can't miss prospect." Rey Mysterio came next at no. 16, dropping from no. 7. Batista was the highest ranking wrestler in the top 20 who wasn't on the top 50 list the year before, showing signs of breaking out. I wrote at the time: "He carries himself in the ring as a respectable power wrestler. Behind the mic he is beginning to show he has a presence and good range.

Samoa Joe rounded out the top 20. He'd finish on top in the no. 1 spot in 2005, a huge leap from no. 20. In 2003 he debuted at no. 48 when a few were onto his potential early.
