Question of the Day Reax #1: Torch readers share ideas on sparking Raw - focus on title chases, The Miz-Bryan model, Cena as Nexus mastermind, Punk on Raw, MMA heel

-- 9/28 Question of the Day: What can WWE do to spark interest in Raw in light of last week's 2.8 rating? (Related to Keller's Take.)

Greg C., Torch reader: A couple of things they can do. One is play up the Daniel Bryan-Michael Cole feud by having Bryan put Cole in the LeBell lock in successive weeks, forcing Cole to hire a bodyguard who could feud with Bryan. Next would be bringing back Triple H and have him feud with Nexus. Lastly, push mid-carders like Morrison to the main event level. One more suggestion would be to introduce a monster heel and have him dominate Raw.

Elliot R., Torch reader: I think WWE should focus on the significance of chasing titles and winning matches. The Miz-Danielson feud is something they are doing right and I'd like to see more of that. If there's a title match, make it the main event, with formal ring introductions and serious play-by-play. For ALL titles. Let that be the focus of the episode. They could show NXT-style background videos promoting the Hart Dynasty vs. Rhodes/McIntyre match and fill ten minutes throughout the show and let that be their showcase. There's far too much filler and over-thinking right now.

Josh Macala of Houston, Tex.: The biggest thing WWE could do, in my opinion, is bring in someone like Rampage Jackson, but to make it very real. Someone like Rampage claiming MMA is better than sports entertainment and he's an even-better entertainer could make for some good moments. It could have that Ken Shamrock feel, but with MMA so much bigger now, it would have a lot more people talking. I believe Rampage coming over in a seemingly real way to bash sports entertainment (in a better way than TNA did with Bobby Lashley) could be the hottest thing right now.

Sal Harold of Los Angeles, Calif. I have watched Raw for most of my life and I must say this has been the most boring stretch of shows I have ever seen. My idea is a big heel turn, which helped start wrestling's boom period in the 1990s. WCW had Hulk Hogan joining WCW and WWE had Vince McMahon's infamous heel turn. Now, WWE's biggest face, John Cena, has an opportunity to turn heel. Imagine, though, John Cena doesn't even try to compete at Hell in a Cell, but as soon as the bell rings, he lays down and takes a loss against Nexus to reveal himself as Nexus's true leader. Orton would then become a bigger face and it could lead into Cena vs. Orton at WrestleMania with Cena as the biggest heel since Hollywood Hogan.

Al. K, Torch reader: My idea is to send C.M. Punk and his stable to Raw to feud against Orton. C.M. Punk is a great heel and Orton a fun to cheer for face. Punk as a heel on Raw could replace the huge hole Jericho's absence will create.

Pete of Morristown, N.J.: Any major spark in Raw ratings would have to start with John Cena. Either he should regain the WWE Title, turn into a main-event level heel, or agree to take over Nexus as an NWO level stable (as opposed to him joining Nexus as a servant ala the JBL/HBK partnership a few years back). The second idea is to bring back weekly guest hosts. Some worked, some didn't work, but nearly every one provided a reason to watch if only for the unintentional comedy. They should also stick to the formula that worked last summer, where ex-wrestlers and sports figures would regularly host while celebrities who clearly knew nothing of wrestling were few and far between.
