WCW Thunder Flashback Report
September 24, 2008
Norfolk, Va.
Report by Jason Powell, current Prowrestling.net Editor

(Live from Norfolk, Va.)... [Q1]... The show opened with brief black and white footage of the Ric Flair-Horsemen return set to 2010 Space Odyssey... Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, and Lee Marshall introduced the show and hyped Halloween Havoc. Heenan got a little pumped up talking about Goldberg vs. Page so Schiavone asked if he's a little excited, to which Heenan responded almost mockingly, "Yes, it's Thursday night." ... (1) Rick Steiner beat Hugh Morris (w/Jimmy Hart) with the top rope bulldog at 2:34. Morris cut his hair and is now sporting a crew cut...

[Q2]... (2) Ernest Miller beat Nick Dinsmore with a sidekick at 1:40....

[Q3]... (3) Saturn beat Psychosis with a frog splash at 7:46. Lodi came out and distracted Saturn with a sign that read, "Saturn ruined my life." Psychosis botched the finish when he kicked out early... A Goldberg video piece aired. They did a better job hyping him throughout the show than in past weeks.... Schiavone interviewed Alex Wright on the ramp. Wright made Schiavone leave and called him a "Pig of a man. Out of shape, overweight, loser." He said Europeans are far superior to Americans and said he is superior to the other European athletes in WCW. He said Norman Smiley is a joke and Fit Finlay couldn't lace his boots. He said he used to watch British Bulldog wrestle when he was in kindergarten and while he was great then now he is an embarrassment to the European culture. He said Bulldog lived with Americans too long and has become a lazy American. The sad thing is that other than the Finlay comment, he was right on... They aired Horsemen highlights with footage of the current Horsemen, along with short clips of Tully Blanchard and Ole Anderson as well as a quick shot of Arn slamming Barry Windham's hand in a car door. Much more "nineties" than the Flair clips last week...
Barbarian_WK150.jpg

[Q4]... (4) Fit Finlay beat The Barbarian (w./Jimmy Hart) at 4:43 with the tombstone piledriver. Barbarian is looking pretty flabby these days. No heat. Scott Hall came to the announcers' desk with a "cocktail" in hand and said, "I hate to interrupt this match guys, but last Monday on Nitro Big Kevin Nash came out and said he's making a match with me for Halloween Havoc. If you haven't noticed lately, I don't take real well at being told what to do. I'm kind of sick and tired of people not liking how I behave. So tell Nash when you see him, he don't tell me what to do. I've got a lot of bosses and Kev, you're not one of them. And one more thing to think about, Big Kev, I'm mean when I drink and lately I'm drinking all the time."... Schiavone interviewed Page in the ring. Page talked about wrestling Goldberg at the PPV. Someone tell him the word phenom is pronounced with an "m" sound at the end and not an "n."...

[Q5]... (5) Raven (w/Kanyon) beat Viallano V with the Evenflow DDT at 2:24. They replayed Viallano IV getting injured on Nitro. They said he will be back in the ring in about a week or so. Before the match, Raven told Viallano he injured his brother on Monday and he would injure him tonight because someone has to feel his pain... They showed a brief clip of Hogan and Warrior from Monday night...

[Q6]... (6) Chavo Guerrero Jr. beat Disco Inferno via reversed decision at 7:30. Schiavone wondered aloud how Eddie Guerrero was doing in Japan. They acknowledged Scott Norton winning the IWGP Title in Yokohama, Japan. After the match, Juventud Gurrerra and Nick Patrick came to the ring and weighed Disco whom Patrick said doctored his prematch report. He checked in eleven pounds over and was DQ'ed...

[Q7]... (7) Alex Wright beat Norman Smiley with a reverse neckbreaker at 6:07. Lots of boring chants...

[Q8]... Stevie Ray came out and said he just talked to Eric Bischoff on his cell phone. He claimed to be the enforcer of the NWO and said the Horsemen would have to go through him. When they came out he bailed, but when he went through the curtain, Arn hit him with a tire iron. All five guys had a chance to speak and Mongo was even cheered. Flair said "Liz is tied up at the Hilton as we speak and the man of a thousand positions, I mean holds (Malenko) is going to show her why he's a Horseman."... (8) Goldberg beat Kanyon at 0:24. Raven sat in on commentary. Kanyon asked, "Who's better than Kanyon?" and Goldberg speared him and gave him the Jackhammer for the win... Another half-assed effort by WCW. They should be embarrassed... [JP]
