WWE News: Notes on Save_Us/Jericho buzz and a quick review of early copy of book Oct 16, 2007 - 12:22:47 AM
PWTorch.com reader Jared Vaughan Davis has done some investigative reporting on the Chris Jericho and Save_Us video buzz...
Guys: I quit watching years ago, but still keep up via The Torch. I work in the media and was lucky enough to get a pre-release copy of "A Lion's Tale" a couple of weeks ago at the office.
Chris Jericho [artist Joseph Borzotta (c) PWTorch]
After reading the book and getting inspired enough to check out some youtube fare relating to Jericho, I definitely saw the word "bookshelves" in the SaveUs video, albeit briefly, but enough to think it was a subconcious placement of the word.
Here's a really tasty nugget from the book: On page 393 (Part 10: New York, New York) there is a handwritten version of Jericho's first interview on WWF television.
"Now when you think of the new millenium you associate it with something spectacular, an event so big it signifies a new era in history...[and in this case] a new era in WWF history. And a new era is what's desperately needed in this once profitable [proud] company. What used to be a cutting edge, captivating, trend setting promotion, has now become [CROSSED OUT: a shell of (sic) it's former self] a stagnating, uninteresting, boring [CROSSED OUT: spectacle] loser in an unwinnable ratings war, that is in dire need of a rescuer (knight in shing armor) and that's why I'm here. Chris Jericho has come to save the WWF!"
Anywhoo, thanks, gang! The book (though NOT as good as "Have a Nice Day") is a great flashback to the glory days of "Stinko Malenko" , "The Man of 1,001 Holds" and "Jericho vs. Greenberg". Also, some interesting stuff relating to Benoit [and Jericho's relationship] in Japan, and behind the scenes in Dubya-C-Dub.
Cheers.
