WWE in Uniondale, N.Y.: Second detailed Smackdown taping results from Nassau Coliseum Oct 31, 2007 - 12:42:50 PM
WWE Smackdown taping
October 30, 2007
Uniondale, N.Y. at Nassau Coliseum
Report by Alfonso Castillo, PWTorch VIP member
The Coliseum appeared to be legitimately sold out, with young children outnumbering every other demographic by far. Nonetheless, it was a good crowd that stayed pretty hot for the product throughout the three-and-a-half hour taping.
(1) The Major Brothers defeated Dave Taylor and Drew McIntyre. This was the only dark match of the night. The Majors, who are both from Long Island and trained at the NYWC wrestling camp out here, got a big pop from the crowd. Taylor got rolled up for the pin. Decent opener.
They aired a video recap of Cyber Sunday and then went into the pyro opening.
Batista came to the ring in his wrestling gear and talked about having a rough childhood. He transitioned into talking about what a big accomplishment it was to defeat the Undertaker, and said because they each won a match, and the other two were draws, he considered them even. He talked about how he and Undertaker would be facing Mark Henry and The Great Khali in a tag team match tonight. Taker appeared in the ring from out of nowhere. He said he'd have Batista's back, but also said he wanted a rematch. Batista told him he'd give him one, and then started to leave the ring. Taker called him back and said only, "Hell in a Cell," which got a big pop from the crowd.
Henry, Khali, and his handler appeared at the entryway. Khali's handler ripped on Long Island fans and hyped their match later tonight.
Jamie Noble was shown backstage talking to Vickie Guerrero. After several weeks of being paired with giants, he asked her to give him a match with Rey Mysterio. Vickie granted his request and Noble concluded that she had a crush on him.
(2) Festus defeated Domino. Not much to this match, which was fine for what it was.
They aired a recap of Eve winning the Divas contest.
(3) Rey Mysterio defeated Jamie Noble. Finlay was at ringside doing commentary for this match. This was a pretty good contest, as expected between these two. I'm not sure if the end was botched, or written this way, but after taking a 619, Noble warded off the West Coast Pop, and then tried to power bomb Rey. Mysterio reversed it into a roll up for the win. After the match, Finlay took the mic and called Rey weak, a quitter and a loser and said he would prove he's a loser next week.
A bruised up Matt Hardy and MVP were shown talking backstage.
(4) Kane defeated MVP. This was another bad match between these two, and way too long. Big Daddy V came to ringside in the closing moments. Kane chokeslammed MVP for the pin. V then got in the ring and pummeled Kane.
(5) Mick Foley defeated Coach. I know that Foley only lives about a half-hour from the Coliseum, but I was surprised they'd put him in a "match" on Smackdown with absolutely no hype. Foley wore street clothes. The ring announcer announced that the special referee was "Mr. McMahon," which made Coach happy. But, of course, it ended up being Hornswoggle McMahon, who came in from underneath the ring. Foley threw a couple decent clotheslines and dropped an elbow, but this was mostly a comedy match, with Foley and Hornswoggle both taking turns beating up on Coach. Foley took out two green Sockos and gave one to Hornswoggle. The little guy gave Coach "The Tadpole Splash" off the top rope and Foley covered him for the pin.
A C.M. Punk video aired hyping the ECW champion coming to Smackdown! next week.
Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snyder was shown sitting at ringside.
(6) Chuck Palumbo defeated Kenny Dykstra. What you'd expect from these two.
Henry was shown talking to Khali in the back. He told him that Batista and Taker would tear each other apart in Hell in the Cell, but tonight it was their turn.
(7) Batista & The Undertaker defeated The Great Khali & Mark Henry by disqualification. Undertaker's energy level made this match passable. It ended with all four men in the ring, and Batista about to powerbomb Henry for the pin when JBL left his commentary table and laid Batista out with a clothesline from hell. The two monsters then beat up the babyfaces some more and left them lying as the show closed.
All in all, this was another mediocre Smackdown with a few bright spots. The announcement of Hell in a Cell was a big deal, and Noble vs. Mysterio was pretty good. The Foley-Coach-Hornswoggle bit also got some laughs from the crowd. The Festus-Domino and Palumbo-Dykstra matches came off as time-fillers.
I won't go over the ECW results, but I will say I was pretty amazed by how fast they transformed the arena from a Smackdown set to an ECW set. The officials had to change to ring apron, all the ropes, tear down some of the Smackdown! stage set, put up the ECW stage set - plus put up all the gimmicky Halloween stuff. And they did it all in less than 15 minutes. I can't help but think the next eventual step is taping ECW using the same Smackdown set, because that seemed like quite the hassle for a one-hour C-brand show that only a small fraction of WWE fans are watching. I'd say about a quarter of the fans left before the ECW taping even started.
QUICK TIPS FOR SENDING RESULTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to "matchresults07" (@pwtorch. com).
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the "&" symbol as opposed to stating "and. " Reserve use of " and" when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. " Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match" ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
