WWE News: Coverage of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's role in "Get Smart" continues Jun 12, 2008 - 1:11:17 PM
Dwayne Johnson, known as The Rock as a WWF headliner in the late-'90s, has a prominent role in the new "Get Smart" movie starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway. In fact, he gets billing before the movie title, a true indication of his status on this big studio release.
In an interview with Groucho Reviews, the director Peter Segal was asked about Johnson's reputation for pulling pranks. Here's the exchange:
G: We hear that the Rock is a real prankster. Were you the victim of any of Dwayne Johnson's jokes?
PS: No! Um, he texts me a lot. And my wife actually gets a little jealous. She says, "Wow, you talk to the Rock a lot, don't you?" And I said, "Yeah, what are you, jealous?" And she said, "I don't know." But no, I haven't experienced any of his pranks. I'm going to have to text him and find out why... (Story Link)
Variety also has a full review of the movie up, one of the first. The only mention of Johnson is in this paragraph:
He's a first-rate wonk, but he longs to be an agent in the field. He wants to fight and shoot. He passes the agent's exam with flying colors. But as the Chief (Alan Arkin) tells him, he's too valuable where he is. So Max is destined to stay indoors (many doors, slamming shut behind him) and prepare his notoriously boring reports for the likes of Agent 23 (Dwayne Johnson), who is out there every day making the world safe for democracy.Variety Review.
As we noted earlier in the week, Johnson is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly this week. Check out that story in our WWE News section.
