Jason Powell at prowrestling.net is reporting that WWE suddenly released Lance Cade last week because officials believe prescription pill abuse led to the seizure he suffered on a flight. Due to the incident occurring in public, with Lillian Garcia fortunately on the flight to help Cade receive medical treatment, WWE came to a quick decision that the incident required termination of Cade's contract.

Jim Ross reported last week that Cade "made a major league mistake while utilizing bad judgment that cost him his job." WWE acted swiftly in terminating Cade, who unfortunately made a mistake that WWE felt they could not condone.

Caldwell's Analysis: As Jason Powell points out in his report, it was obvious WWE felt Cade's incident was above-and-beyond the terms of the Wellness Policy for how to handle disciplinary actions against Cade. There is a clause in the policy that states: "Any Talent who is arrested, convicted or who admits to a violation of law relating to use, possession, purchase, sale or distribution of prohibited drugs will be in material breach of contract and subject to immediate dismissal."

However, it does not sound like Cade broke any laws; he merely had an incident of prescription pill abuse that led to a seizure in public. Another factor to consider is the means of acquiring the pills. Whether or not he acquired the pills by legal means and within the guidelines of the Wellness Policy is unknown, but WWE appears to have bypassed all of those Wellness Policy formalities and outright released him very soon after the incident.
