It's a decent week to be WWE chairman Vince McMahon in the national media spotlight. Compared to Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig, McMahon is in a favorable position on the issue of steroids in professional sports.

Bud Selig has been criticized by the sports media for his claim of ignorance to any steroid issue in baseball 15 years ago, which led to over 100 players testing positive for steroids when baseball first began testing in 2003.

McMahon vs. Selig was the subject of a Yahoo sports column by Dan Wetzel this week, as he made the statement that McMahon actually looks good compared to Selig. And that's taking into account that McMahon went to federal court over the issue in 1994.

An excerpt from Wetzel's column: McMahon, who beat the conspiracy to distribute steroids charges in 1994, actually ran an honest operation compared to Selig. While Hulk Hogan may have claimed he was just "eating his vitamins," anyone over the age of 12 understood the entire thing was make-believe, just entertainment.

Not Selig. Not baseball. They clung to an illusion they either knew wasn't true or should've known wasn't true. When confronted repeatedly with facts that the game was a sham, they reacted at a glacial pace.

Additionally, Selig has come under fire for earning over $18 million during the last baseball season, which led to him being labeled "a pimp" on ESPN Radio.

It's helping fuel a fire that was helped by Jesse Ventura, who said in an interview last week that Bud Selig should be federally investigated just like Vince McMahon was because of the amount of steroid use Selig allowed under his watch.

Caldwell's Analysis: The annual "off-season baseball steroid discussion" will quickly die down when baseball season starts, as baseball writers will return to writing about middle relief and pitchers giving up too many home runs, but it's interesting to see how McMahon is being looked at as a near beacon of hope for how to run a sports-related company compared to Bud Selig.
