WWE CEO Linda McMahon was approved for a position on the Connecticut state Board of Education today. The House of Representatives voted 96 to 45 in approval of McMahon's nomination from governor M. Jodi Rell earlier this year.

Representatives who voted against McMahon focused on her endorsement of violence reaching children through her CEO position with WWE. Republican representative Lawrence Cafero said that's walking a fine line on who is qualified for government positions.

Cafero asked if lawmakers should vote against future nominees who smoke because children should not be exposed to cigarettes.

"Be careful of that road, folks," Cafero said. "Good decent people ... will be precluded from serving their state or their city or their town."

One of the leading Democrats who opposed McMahon's nomination said there's already enough violence in the world for children to be exposed to.

"It seems to me that we're sending the wrong message to people - that violence is all right," said Jack Thompson. "It's the wrong message. I grew up with a professional wrestler. He lived behind me. We were great friends. At one point, he was Sinbad the Sailor when he was the bad guy. When people are jumping off ropes onto other people, it sends the wrong message to children."

Caldwell's Analysis: Sorry, Evan Bourne, you're sending the wrong message to children. Also, I'm sure Bill Watts circa 1993 WCW would love to meet Mr. Thompson.
