WWE Superstars/ECW TV taping report
July 1, 2009
Bakersfield, Calif.
Report by Luke Fleeman, PWTorch VIP member
At this event they recorded next week's ECW and two matches for Superstars, or so they told the crowd.
ECW TV taping for July 9 episode
(1) Shelton Benjamin pinned Yoshi Tatsu after an actual match. Competitive, though.
(2) One of the Bella twins beat Katie Lea Burchill with the classic twin switch move. One of them botched a move on the bottom ropes, if I recall correctly.
(3) Ezekiel Jackson debuted on ECW and squashed a jobber. He scowled a lot, so he's debuting as a heel.
-- Abraham Washington interviewed ECW champion Tommy Dreamer. During the segment, he teased Tommy about his weight, until Kozlov interrupted, still sporting his goofy smile.
(4) Christian beat Kozlov in a #1 Contenders match for the ECW Title, to be contested at Night of Champions.
Superstars taping for July 9 episode
(1) Zach Ryder beat Tyler Reks in a match that drew boring chants.
(2) R-Truth beat Ricky Ortiz.
-- A large group of fans sporting anti-Cena shirts were forced to take them off. Another fan in a F*Ck FEAR Stone Cold shirt was also forced to take his shirt off.
The Smackdown non-taped matches did feature C.M. Punk in full heel mode, telling Jeff that he was legitimately injured but didn't need controlled substances like Hardy did; shades of his work with Raven in ROH.
Kane was back in action. Jericho and Mysterio worked a long, good match, followed by interference from Dolph Ziggler and Edge.
