WWE CEO Linda McMahon is reportedly considering a run for U.S. Senate in the state of Connecticut in 2010, according to political reports from Washington, D.C. this morning. McMahon is currently on the Connecticut Board of Education.

The report indicates McMahon would run as a Republican against current Democratic U.S. senator Chris Dodd. The Washington Post reports McMahon is "seriously considering" running for the position.

Dodd announced in July that he has prostate cancer and is scheduled for surgery this month. It's not expected to prevent him from running for re-election in 2010, but his reputation has been damaged by recent scandals.

Dodd was embroiled in a headline-grabbing scandal related to the subprime mortgage crisis two years ago that contributed to the economic downturn. His approval rate in October 2008 was 42 percent. At the same time, 48 percent of Connecticut residents surveyed disapproved of his performance.

Dodd was cleared of any wrongdoing by an Ethics committee last week, but there's concern over whether he can erase political damage before the next political campaign in 2010.

WWE would certainly put the political machine in motion supporting McMahon if she decides to run. We saw what happened when WWE chairman Vince McMahon felt he was wronged by the Pepsi Center and Stan Kroenke.

Dodd also tried running for U.S. president in 2008, but he received the fewest number of votes in the early primaries against current U.S. president Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and other politicians.
