WTAE's news website in Pittsburgh, titled "The Pittsburgh Channel," covered hometown quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's role as guest host of WWE Raw last night. It walked through his contributioins to the show. Key excerpts:

-Roethlisberger and his o-line temporarily traded in the black and gold of the Steeler Nation for the green and black of the D-X Army, posing with the group and performing their signature "crotch chop."

-Staying true to his word, Roethlisberger refrained from any physical involvement in the matches.
His Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, which works to give grants to police and fire departments’ canine units, was mentioned several times throughout the show.

-Asked if he saw the show, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said his family doesn't watch wrestling at home because he doesn't want his kids to see the moves and try them.

-Roethlisberger and other Steelers have often been seen in the crowd at local WWE shows at Mellon Arena.

The article also points out that the afternoon before the Bragging Rights PPV takes place in Pittsburgh, Pa. at Mellon Arena, the Steelers host the Minnesota Vikings. So it's possible that Roethlisberger may be present at the PPV with other teammates cheering from the front row.

Keller's Analysis: With all of the coverage WWE has received on a huge night for the NFL in general due to the Packer-VIkings MNF game, getting Roethlisberger to guest host last night has been a great benefit for WWE's image as being in the mainstream. Sports fans are getting exposed to the fact that many other celebrities have been hosting Raw lately because ESPN and this story, among others, are mentioning other guest hosts in recent weeks. Instead of seeming irrelevant or something that was "big in the '90s," WWE is coming across to fringe mainstream fans who might not have been thinking of WWE as being in the mix again. As with ESPN last night, there were no snide comments or inferences, so in effect it's positive publicity for WWE. The pairing of WWE appearances with celebrities charity interests is a win-win-win for everyone (WWE, celebrity, and the charities).
