Ring of Honor wrestler Colt Cabana says his feeling on why he was released from WWE one year ago was because he was stuck in-between developmental and WWE where he was "too good" for developmental, but WWE didn't have any specific ideas on how to utilize him.

"I was down in developmental for about two years and it got to the point where basically my trainers told me I was too good to be in developmental," Cabana told Mauro Ranallo on the Fight Show podcast earlier this week. "They were like, 'you don't need to be here anymore, Colt. We're just waiting for something.' WWE had just fired a bunch of guys, so they were like, 'Let's pull up Colt.' They didn't have anything specific for me."

Cabana says he had no problem with a slow build-up on TV while WWE figured out something for him, but he pointed to the lack of introductory vignettes as one of WWE's problems with their method for introducing new characters

"When I kept on losing (on TV), they had nothing specific for me, and I think someone was like, 'Well, this guy sucks, so let's get rid of him.' I would have liked to have - even Outback Jack had awesome incoming promos," Cabana said.

Cabana also provided some unique insight into the WWE writing team's make-up. He talked about the younger writers trying to feature him on WWE's website with his "What's Crackin?" Internet show, while the older writers didn't see much use for him.

"I got a great opportunity with my WWE.com show and the younger writers are really hip and know what's up. Those are the guys who gave me a shot and slid me under the radar with the WWE.com show," Cabana said. "The reality of it was the guys on top who were a little older and didn't really know what's hot in pop culture didn't even watch the dotcom show and didn't allow that to grow. They were like, 'Who's this chubby Jewish kid? Eh, he's not a star. Let's get rid of him.'"

Cabana also talked about Ring of Honor to promote the Eighth Anniversary show in New York City on Saturday night. Cabana was asked what it's like having Jim Cornette working with ROH, which allowed Cabana to take a shot at Ric Flair, who recently worked for ROH as an "ambassador," but on a limited basis.

"Cornette's awesome. It's great to have a guy who's been in the industry for so long come to ROH and he's not just coming to collect money. I'm not going to name names, but (coughed under his breath) Ric Flair," Cabana said. "He's coming with the love of the sport and he really loves what the ROH product stands for."

Cabana talked more about ROH and doing his stand-up comedy routine in the interview on the Fight Show. Download & Listen to the interview on hardcoresportsradio.com.
