The Associated Press published a report on Martha Hart's lawsuit against WWE and the McMahons this weekend that was picked up my multiple national news outlets.

The report mainly features quotes from Bret Hart following up on his scathing comments against Martha earlier this week on his Facebook page.

Bret mainly defended WWE's Hart & Soul DVD, which was the subject of Martha's lawsuit. He said his perspective is that Martha, the widow of former WWE wrestler Owen Hart, is painting a picture that the DVD was done in poor taste because it included Owen against her wishes.

"It was done with really good taste," Hart told the AP. "As a family, we're really proud of it and Martha's lawsuit sort of makes it seem like there's something bad or wrong about it. It's just a bunch of brothers and sisters celebrating the memory of the whole family."

The AP report cited Martha's reasons for filing the suit, including her desire to distance Owen's legacy from anything WWE or pro wrestling related. Bret softened his stance against Martha personally in a follow-up comment to the AP.

"As much as I sympathize with Martha, I also think time's gone by enough that it's time to start celebrating what my brother Owen was," he said.

The AP reported they tried to reach out to Martha's representatives for a response to Bret's comments this week, but she did not respond.

Caldwell's Analysis: From Martha's perspective, it doesn't seem like it mattered whether the Hart Family was presented in a good or bad light on the DVD; her complaint was WWE including Owen Hart in the DVD against her wishes. Whether she has a case remains to be seen.

From another angle, it's clear the AP picked up the story as part of their ongoing coverage of former WWE CEO Linda McMahon's Connecticut Senate campaign. The same AP reporter who filed a report earlier this week on Republican leaders defending WWE and McMahon against the very broad "steroid" topic filed this report on Bret defending WWE's DVD release.
