-- In a story that should get plenty of coverage on Thursday, former WWE CEO Linda McMahon has spent $21.5 million on her Senate campaign in Connecticut according to new campaign finance records filed this week.

Quarterly records for the period of April to June indicate McMahon spent $7.5 million of her own money in the most recent three-month period. McMahon also reported she has more than $3.2 million cash on hand.

McMahon has vowed to spend upwards of $50.0 million of her personal money, mainly coming from her time as WWE CEO. The campaign for McMahon's lead opponent in the Senate race, Richard Blumenthal, took a dig at McMahon tonight, saying it's an election, "not an auction."

-- Related to how McMahon acquired her fortune to campaign for Senator, the notable publication "The Weekly Standard" has a lengthy article on McMahon's WWE background. Included is a discussion on "steroids" and various scandals that have followed McMahon around throughout her tenure as head of WWE with husband, Vince McMahon, and now to her Senate campaign.

The thesis of the Standard's story reads: "If the WWE is McMahon's calling card, it's also her chief weakness. The WWE may be a billion-dollar company, but the success is accompanied by some unpleasant history, ranging from charges of drug use and sexual misconduct to complaints of business double-dealing. The scandals are numerous and have been heavily detailed in investigative articles and books, though they are hotly disputed by the McMahons. Linda McMahon's biggest concern, however, isn't wrestling world gossip. It's steroids."

The articles fixates on the "steroids" topic and examines McMahon's recent comments to BusinessWeek that her campaign spokesman, Ed Patru, tried to clean up. Unfortunately, the article stops short of examining general occupational health concerns in WWE, the full-time schedule with no off-season for wrestlers, the more serious issue in 2010 of painkiller addiction, concussions, and other documented issues in WWE that McMahon has yet to truly account for as part of her accrued fortune to fund a U.S. Senate campaign.

-- Related to the content WWE presented while McMahon was CEO of WWE, a group of Connecticut moms have formed a group called "Mothers Opposing McMahon." The group's goal is to encourage residents not to vote for McMahon in the Senate race.

The new group received coverage from the local NBC affiliate in Hartford, Conn. earlier this week. The group is saying pro wrestling "encourages physical and verbal abuse of women and markets it to children."

McMahon's campaign gave a standard response that voters are more concerned with McMahon's politics rather than her past in pro wrestling.
