WWE & Mattel Comic-Con report
July 22, 2010
San Diego, Calif.
Report by Mike, Torch VIP member

I was at the WWE/Mattel panel at Comic-Con on Thursday and wanted to share highlights from the presentation. This was the first time WWE held a panel at Comic-Con and I found it quite enjoyable and informative.

The big thing was Randy Savage getting his own action figure. They said he had not had a WWE action figure in 12 years. Savage did a video promo that was vintage Macho Man. He teased the audience by saying, "look for more of me in 2011."

Eve Torres came out first, followed by The Miz in a three-piece suit with the Money in the Bank briefcase firmly in hand. They also had two of the WWE writers there, Ed Kosky and Brian Gewirtz. The host said we were really lucky to have them there. Eve barely spoke at all and Miz pretty much dominated the discussion in the basic Q&A with the audience.

The writers talked about how the NXT angle is getting
everyone energized. They also talked about how writing has
changed from just faxing in the script to Vince once a week,
to now daily meetings. They also discussed how they've had
to let storylines go that didn't resonate with the audience
or shift storylines if one of the wrestlers has a major injury. (Read an additional report in the WWE News section.)

-- The highlights from Miz's discussion was him talking about how he got started in the business, and that he didn't just come from the "Real World." He spoke about paying his dues in UPW and Deep South Wrestling.

Miz also stated he knew he sucked as the Smackdown announcer and the Diva Search host. He said he remembers forgetting his lines and even the phone number to call in to vote. He said he was brought in specifically to be the "Ryan Seacrest of Smackdown."

Miz also said that although he came in second in "Tough Enough," he said no one knows where Daniel Puder (the winner of "Tough Enough") is any more.

Miz said he wears trunks because Vince said he has "nice legs," and you can't say no to Vince McMahon if he tells you that you have nice legs.

Miz also said that "everyone hated him in the locker room" when he first started. He said the locker room environment has changed now and there's more of camaraderie. He also said that JBL used to embarrass him in front of the locker room, but JBL was a lot better one-on-one and gave him good advice.

A person in the audience said he thought Miz was going to be the next Rock. Miz corrected him by saying he would be "the first Miz." He then did a somewhat heelish promo saying The Miz is going to be bigger than The Rock, Hulk Hogan, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.
