Former WWE CEO Linda McMahon hit the airwaves this morning with multiple TV news appearances, including interviews on ABC, CBS, and NBC, to discuss her victory in Connecticut's Republican primary election last night.

Considering the Democratic opposition's strong words against McMahon last night following her victory, McMahon was asked to respond to criticism of her business practices in WWE during the TV interviews this morning.

Network news hosts Ann Curry (NBC's "Today") and George Stephanopoulos (ABC's "Good Morning America") each read the quote from Robert Menendez, the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, that attempted to set the tone for the expected war of words between McMahon and Democratic candidate Richard Blumenthal headed to the November general election.

Menendez said in a statement to reporters last night: "Connecticut Republicans today nominated a corporate CEO of WWE, who under her watch violence was peddled to kids, steroid abuse was rampant, yet she made her millions."

McMahon predictably tried to define the issue in-play as "soap opera content" without addressing the real issue of wrestler health and occupational health hazards. She also discussed WWE's "evolution" to a PG-TV product. Stephanopoulos, hinting at the last part of the quote regarding McMahon making her millions during the period of excess, pressed McMahon if there was anything she regretted from the TV-14 era.

"I think as you look back, any company, any organization, any company would say there were things you would have done differently," McMahon safely told Stephanopoulos, trying to appear relatable and "human" to potential voters.

McMahon's less-safe statement came on CBS's "The Early Show" when she was pressed on the issue of spending an extraordinary sum of $22 million to help her win the Republican nomination. McMahon boldly said it's her money, she earned it, and she's investing it in the campaign to create awareness for her candidacy.

"The money that I'm spending, you know, in this race, I have clearly earned and I'm investing in myself to be a public servant," McMahon said. "It's money I've earned. It's money I'm willing to invest."

McMahon said that without acknowledging the wrestlers - the "soap opera performers," as she has called WWE talent - who helped make McMahon her fortune with their blood, sweat, and undocumented concussions when a Wellness Policy was not in place.

McMahon's appearances on the network TV broadcasts this morning were limited to short soundbytes in brief interview windows, which has consistently been her campaign's strategy. The pattern over the course of the campaign has been to shield McMahon from long-form interviews where real issues can be hashed out and to hide her weakness of dulling viewers (potential voters) with robotic responses.

As a result, the TV interviews created brief discussion on key issues, with the hosts having to settle for McMahon's pre-produced responses downplaying the "WWE criticism" by trying to define the issue herself, with no room for true follow-up.

Caldwell's Analysis: I get the feeling future TV anchors interviewing McMahon won't be as nice going forward as they were the night after McMahon's first big political victory. There was a sense of agitation from both George Stephanopoulos and Ann Curry during the interviews this morning as McMahon gave her safe, polished, press release-sanctioned statements in a robotic fashion while deflecting questions on the real WWE issues she has yet to truly answer in one year of campaigning. Video of her appearances this morning are below.
