WWE News: PPV buys & revenue break down in fourth quarter 2010, comparison to 2009 figures, how did the $5 price increase affect revenue?

WWE reported today fourth quarter 2010 PPV revenue of $13.8 million in fourth quarter 2010, down from $16.3 million in fourth quarter 2009.

WWE noted a 23 percent decline in total PPV buys. The two key highlights were a 26 percent decline in Hell in a Cell PPV buys and a 24 percent decline in Bragging Rights buys vs. the 2009 version.

Out of the four PPV events in Q4 2010, Survivor Series was the only event that showed an increase in the number of buys. Series was up to 244,000 buys compared to 235,000 buys in 2009. It was still off-the-pace from 319,000 buys in 2008 and 341,000 buys in 2007.

Fourth Quarter PPV BUYS Break Down

HIAC - 210,000 buys vs. 283,000 buys in 2009
Bragging Rights - 137,000 vs. 181,000 in 2009
Survivor Series - 244,000 vs. 235,000 in 2009
TLC PPV - 195,000 buys vs. 228,000 buys in 2009

-- Looking at the revenue comparison, WWE increased the PPV price domestically by $5 in 2010. In fourth quarter 2010, WWE's figures calculate to revenue of $17.60 per PPV buy. In 2009, the figure was $16.03 PPV revenue per buy.

WWE reported 784,000 buys in Q4 2010, resulting in $13.8 million in quarterly PPV revenue.

WWE reported 1,017,000 PPV buys in Q4 2009 (including prior period buys), resulting in $16.3 million in quarterly PPV revenue.

The result is WWE received more revenue per buy, but fewer people ordered PPVs, resulting in the $2.5 million decline in PPV revenue.
