WWE Smackdown TV taping report
March 6, 2012
Uncasville, Conn.
Report by Zack Zimmerman, PWTorch VIP member

SD_140_33.jpg

Smackdown opened with GM-for-a-day John Laurinaitis and David Otunga inside a cage. Laurinaitis announced a steel cage re-match for the U.S. Title after Raw.

(1) U.S. champion Santino beat Jack Swagger to retain the U.S. Title. Dolph Ziggler tried to climb in halfway through, so Santino hit the Cobra on both of Ziggler's hands as he was climbing. The ref threw out Ziggler. In the end, Vickie Guerrero slammed the cage door on Swagger by accident, allowing Santino to escape the cage for the win.

Backstage, Teddy Long begged Laurinaitis to call off Aksana's match with Kane. Laurinaitis said no because Teddy didn't say please, but he made a match for later - Long vs. Laurinaitis. The winner would then decide if the Kane vs. Aksana match happens or not.

Drew McIntyre came out. He said Laurinaitis told him he could keep his job if he won a match against a mystery opponent. The Great Khali came out. David Otunga came to the stage and had Khali take a seat outside to watch the match. He then called out his real opponent - Hornswoggle.

(2) Drew McIntyre beat Hornswoggle. McIntyre hit three scoop slams and the ref called for the bell, saying that Horny couldn't get up. So, it appears Drew got his job back. Strange.

After the match, Khali came in and chopped Drew. The ref tried to lift Horny, but couldn't, so Khali carried him out while he was grimacing.

Backstage, Laurinaitis warmed up in a track suit.

(3) Mark Henry beat Ezekiel Jackson. Sitting behind the production table, I could see they played a video package hyping Henry's weightlifting history (perhaps since he was inducted into a Hall of Fame over the weekend). Henry won in about two minutes. (Zeke remains winless on TV in 2012.)

(4) Teddy Long beat John Laurinaitis. Laurinaitis came out in his track suit and tight black spandex wrestling tights. He also wore black sneakers. He also had black Under Armour gear under the track jacket. Teddy was out next with Aksana. Johnny took the mic and told Teddy to lay down. Cue Kane's pyro. Randy Orton then attacked Kane and hit the RKO on the outside. In the confusion, Teddy rolled Johnny up with a schoolboy.

(5) Kofi Kingston & R-Truth beat WWE tag champions Epico & Primo in a non-title match.

Michael Cole entered the ring and called out Sheamus, who got a good pop, and then World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan, who got a really strong reaction. Lots of heat from kids and tons or cheers from the guys. There were signs everywhere reading "Yes Yes Yes!" Daniel talked. Sheamus talked. A.J. grabbed the mic and Bryan told her to shut up. Overall, good segment hyping their WrestleMania title match. Both men are getting really comfy on the mic.

IC champion Cody Rhodes came out. The production table showed his stuff with Big Show that they've been doing. Show came out, followed by The Miz, and finally Randy Orton for a six-man tag match.

(6) Randy Orton & Big Show & Sheamus beat World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan & The Miz & IC champion Cody Rhodes in a six-man tag match. Cody and Show brawled to the back, Bryan and Sheamus fought into the crowd, and Miz ate an RKO for the loss. There was actually a "yes!" chant for Daniel Bryan started opposite the hard camera.

Kane attacked Randy after the match and they brawled all over the arena, then back into the ring, where Orton reversed a chokeslam into an RKO. The show will probably go off the air with Orton standing tall.
