John Cena says he truly doesn't like The Rock because of how he has gone about his business in the past and today. Here are key excerpts of his expansive 48 minute interview with Sports Illustrated.

-"It was talked about whether we like each other or whether don't like each other for quite some time. Then about two before the big day, April 1st, it was made public that I certainly disagree with the way he does business and we were off."

-"I congratulate him on all his success. He has a Hall of Fame resume in WWE, his movies have grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. But if it was my career path, I would have just done it differently, a lot of the decisions he's made, a lot of the people he's pissed off."

-"I just don't agree with a lot of decisions me made... Coming and going, I'm a company guy... Just all that time being gone and the total process he took to try to reinvent himself. I can show you magazine covers that say The Rock Is Dead, I can show you interviews with him ringside at a UFC fight going 'Ah, I'll never go back to wrestling.' Just talking bad about the vehicle that got you to the dance, just to further yourself, and then when the dust settled, wanting to come back to the dance."

When asked about C.M. Punk expressing disappointment that The Rock keeps to himself behind the scene, Cena agreed.

"That's what I see. I'm walking the halls of the arena constantly. That's what I see. You have at least two guys who say that."

Keller's Analysis: The Rock did distance himself from pro wrestling early on and there are probably a few quotes he wishes he could take back. In retrospect it's easy to look back and say he should have never distanced himself from pro wrestling, but it's easier to say from the perspective today knowing Rock made it big in movies, but that wasn't known back then. Rock was listening to advisors telling him he needed to distance himself from the image pro wrestling had, fresh off of the Attitude Era. In years that followed WWE was the subject of controversy, whether it was steroid use, a series of drug-related wrestler deaths, exploiting wrestler deaths for storylines (Eddie Guerrero), and then the whole Chris Benoit situation. Of course Rock had to keep his distance from what WWE's image was, especially when he was trying to expand from being an action movie star to being in some kid movies produced by Disney. I'll have more to say about this in a new blog later.
