-- 8/2 ROH TV Hits & Misses

ROH TV HITS

Eddie Edwards vs. Jay Freddie: This match only went 2:20, but it fits the profile of Edwards ducking legitimate contenders and continuing the "10-minute hunt match" concept. I still love this concept, however, I think a legitimate contender needs to be put in the ring with Edwards soon. That contender doesn't necessarily need to win the "hunt," but coming close could make for some compelling TV. As I said about a month ago, I'd like to see Colt Cabana be the first guy to win the "hunt" and get a shot at the TV Title. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

Kenny King vs. Delirious: The pre-match antics of Austin Aries were hilarious and I thought the little digs taken at John Laurinaitis added to his character. As for the match itself, it was definitely predictable, but it kept the feud going. I'm looking forward to the blow-off match between Aries and Delirious come September and I don't see any reason why the buildup won't continue to stay strong.

Jay Briscoe vs. Claudio Castagnoli: Not a great match, but nice back-and-forth action with the two trading some fun pinfall attempts to the finish. Jay Briscoe going over was the right move to help push towards this feud's blow-off match. It actually lead perfectly into...

Mark Briscoe vs. Chris Hero: As much as I continue to not like seeing Hero lose, this was the right move. I'm torn on how I'd like to see this one end, though. I don't believe The Briscoes need to win the tag titles yet again. It would do nothing for them. The other part of me wants to see Hero branch out again as a singles star and challenge Tyler Black for the ROH Title. But, either way, you know we'll see a great blow-off match soon. Steel cage match, anyone?

Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas announced debut: This actually surprised me a good bit. There are only two gripes I have, but neither of them makes this a "miss." First, I would have preferred this being announced during the show. But, I know this show was taped in advance, so I can understand why the announcers didn't mention it. Secondly, and also a gripe that mirrors the first, I would have liked to see these two involved in the Tag Wars tournament. Either way, we'll see a great match between the former "World's Greatest Tag Team" and the Kings of Wrestling.

ROH TV MISSES

Dark City Fight Club vs. The Embassy: I'm not going to "crap" on this match because the action wasn't bad. Rather, I'm going to criticize a booking decision here. I don't think this was the best match to kick off the show and especially not the best match to kick off the Tag Wars tournament. I might be picky here, but if there was a "miss" on this show, this was definitely it. Overall, this was a good, but not great, show that recovered from a lackluster start.
