The weekend of July 23-25 was a huge weekend for independent wrestling. DGUSA, CHIKARA, and Evolve all ran shows with strong headline matches that generated buzz for all three promotions.

While those three promotions held serves in the Northeast, ROH headed to the Midwest for three events. "Salvation" was the culmination of a rare triple shot for ROH.

"Salvation" is a buzz-worthy show for the semi-main and main event matches. The semi-main event features Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli taking on the Young Bucks. The main event features Tyler Black defending the ROH World Hvt. title against Kevin Steen.

The Hero & Castagnoli vs. Young Bucks (Generation Me) match is an easy ****1/4 match that featured a lengthy heat segment on both Nick and Matt Jackson before the match really heated up and sent the crowd into a frenzy down the stretch.

The main event is the real showcase attraction here. If you're wondering what might have been if Black had stayed in ROH, this match answers the question. Black put in a great performance against Steen and carried himself a level above once again similar to his match against Davey Richards at "Death Before Dishonor XIII" back in June.

Steen's sadistic performance can't be ignored here. He was awesome. Steen doesn't have the look that will ever get him into the WWE, but he's a fantastic performer and he's really had an incredible year in 2010. In fact, he's got my vote for best heel right now.

Steen busted open Black during the early stages of the match and was simply awesome playing to the cameras and the crowd with his facial expressions and mannerisms.

Black really surprised me with his comeback and strong presence in the ring. He was really coming into his own as a performer at this time. I would rate this match just slightly below the Richards-Black match at ****3/4.

There's not a lot of compelling wrestling on television these days. Shows like "Salvation" are worth a watch if you enjoy good in-ring action mixed with strong personalities in the ring.

Kevin Steen deserves your attention and there's no better place to check out what he's all about than by getting this release from ROH.

ROH "Salvation" is available on DVD at ROHWrestling.com.
