WWE Smackdown TV review
October 10, 2002
Taped Tuesday, Oct. 8
Report by B.J. Bethel, Torch Team Contributor

We started with a recap of 'Taker-Brock from last week, featuring Stephanie's voice in that "wacky-slow-motion-deep-sounding" tone, thanks to the production crew. Again this week, we get no regular intro. Marilyn Manson's check must have bounced. The segment ended with UT waiting in the parking lot for Lesnar.

1st Quarter Hour

Matt Hardy cut a promo to start the show off. Last week's victory over the Undertaker was apparently a giant moment in the era of "Matt-i-tude," at least according to him. Matt showed a replay of the pinfall, cutting out Lesnar interfering and hitting an F 5. 'Taker made his way to the ring as Hardy said 'Taker would rather face Lesnar in the Hell in the Cell then take him on in the ring. Matt changed his tune once 'Taker got closer to the ring. 'Taker went after Matt, Matt hit him with the microphone and slammed his broken hand into the turnbuckle. 'Taker sold it for about half a second, before pounding him back. He ended up putting Matt into he ring steps outside the ring. Undertaker then gave Matt Hardy the "Iron" Mike Sharpe treatment, despite the "pain" of it being broken. Matt juiced as Undertaker chased off some officials. Matt managed to get some momentum back in the ring, but it didn't last long. Hardy finally nailed 'Taker with a chair outside, but 'Taker just got mad and pounded the chair into him with his cast. The officials were still trying to separate them when 'Taker missed a punch and ended up tagging the ring post. This gave Matt the chance to escape. 'Taker has "No Pain" written on his cast.

Commercial: If you see a jackass with an orange curtain on the street, kick him in the nuts.

2nd Quarter Hour

They replay the Hardy/'Taker brawl after the break.

(1) Eddie Guerrero (w/Chavo Guerrero) defeated Rikishi with the "El Paso Lasso" leglock. Between entrances, they showed a clip of the Undertaker backstage. The trainer is telling him he probably broke his hand in a different spot this time. Rikishi's size gave him the advantage early, but Rikishi missed the standing ass drop. Eddie made him pay by giving him a drop kick to the face as he sat on the mat. Eddie punched away at him in the corner, but Rikishi came back and caught him with a back drop. Rikishi missed a splash against the turnbuckle. Eddie kicked his knee out and gave him the slingshot senton and then went up top. Eddie missed the Frog Splash, and tried to charge Rikishi afterwards, but Rikishi caught him with a Samoan drop. Eddie then dropped in the corner and Rikishi signaled for the stinkface. Chavo tried to interfere, but Rikishi pulled him into the ring and gave him a super kick. He gave both of them a butt splash and then he gave them a double stink face. Eddie rolled outside to the floor as Chavo Rikishi went after Chavo. Both Guerrero's tried bringing chairs into the ring, Eddie finally managed to get a blow in by hitting him in the leg with it again and locking him up in a leg lock, which Cole dubbed "The El Paso Lasso." Rikishi tapped. Eddie is God.

Torrie is backstage going through lingerie trying to figure out what she's going to wear tonight. Her "Dad" showed up and surprised her. Torrie tried hiding the lingerie behind her back.

Commercial: Marijuana is bad for you.

3rd Quarter Hour

Benoit and Angle are having a stare down in Steph's office as Steph tries to talk sense to them. She tried to tell them she needed them to work together to make their tag division legitimate. She said she'd have to suspend them if they get into any "physicality," and Benoit grinned. Angle said he was missing brain cells and teeth. Benoit brought up the fact he beat him at Unforgiven.

Funaki is interviewing Misterio backstage. Nidia showed up and started talking to him in Spanish. Rey said something back in Spanish, and Nidia went off. She then ran into Noble. They didn't get along. Nidia smacked Noble's water on a security guy, and he kicked them both out of the arena.

Eddie and Chavo were shown backstage congratulating themselves. They ran into Benoit as he was coming out of the General Manager's office. Eddie wanted to know if Benoit got "into trouble with the principal." Benoit said he isn't taking another year off because of Angle. Eddie said something about Angle training for the Olympics and that Kurt might be trying to "take him out with him," after he said Kurt was trying to get a Gold Medal in "figure skating." Angle tried to be friendly with Eddie and Chavo and they just walked off. Angle asked Benoit if they were talking about him. Angle said he'd beat it out of him if he didn't fess up. Benoit smart assed him and walked off.

4th Quarter Hour

(2) Chris Benoit & Kurt Angle defeated John Cena & Billy Kidman when Benoit made Kidman tap to the Crippler Crossface. Kidman and Benoit started. Kidman locked on an arm bar and tagged Cena. A double elbow, and Cena made a two count. Benoit tagged in Angle, and Cena took it to him immediately, hitting him with a flying forearm for two. A double team by the faces ended with Kidman drop kicking Angle for two, but Angle gave Kidman an overhead belly-to-belly over the top rope onto the floor. Benoit then threw him back into the ring, where Angle stomped him. Angle then hit Kidman with a big back suplex. Kidman flipped out of another attempt, but Kidman still couldn't take advantage. Benoit then tagged himself in and hit Kidman with two rolling German suplexes and a back breaker. Angle wasn't too happy with that. Benoit then slapped Kidman across the face as Cole brought up that Angle and Benoit kept trying to out do each other. Benoit then locked a half crab on Kidman. Kidman reversed it into a small package for two. Angle then tagged himself in, much to the dismay of Benoit. Angle stomped Kidman and hit him with a back breaker for two. Kidman caught Angle in the corner with a boot and made the tag, but Angle had Kidman on his shoulder, so the ref couldn't see the tag from behind Angle. Cena wasn't happy. Angle and Benoit tried to double team Kidman, but it ended with Benoit sending Angle into the ring post as Kidman dodged and hit Benoit with an enzuigiri. Kidman finally tagged Cena, who took it to Benoit with a back drop and a spine buster on Angle. Cena got a two count with a fisherman's neckbreaker on Benoit. Angle tried to splash him but Cena moved and he hit Benoit. Angle and Cena went to the outside and Kidman hit the SSP on Benoit, but Angle pulled Kidman out of the ring. Kidman reversed a power bomb into a face buster for two. Angle locked the ankle lock on Kidman, but as Cena knocked Angle from behind, Benoit pushed them both out of the ring, locked the Cross Face on Kidman, and got him to tap. Benoit and Angle argued afterwards. The storyline detracted from the match a bit, as they tried to implement it through out the match. Still, good stuff but not what it could have been. That's what next week is for, though!

Matt-i-ttude Video is shown. Followed by another recap of the Hardy/'Taker brawl from the opening segment.

5th Quarter Hour

Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman and an unidentified female make their way to the ring. Heyman cut a promo and then handed the microphone to the woman when Undertaker ran in and chased them out. She then chastised him for sleeping with her and lying to her. She then started apologizing to Sara for her having to find out about it this way. She also called him "Mark" through out the interview. "Mark" said he didn't know who she was, so she slapped him and then she walked out of the ring. Heyman is bouncing around happy as Lesnar smiles. God, this sucks.

The "Hit of the Week," or whatever, is Undertaker getting his hand smashed last week.

Heyman, Lesnar and "Tracey" were leaving when Steph stopped them and said Lesnar is replacing Jamie Noble in the tag team tourney match tonight. He's going to be Tajiri's partner against Misterio and Edge.

6th Quarter Hour

(3) Billy (w/Chuck) defeated D Von (w/Ron Simmons) with the Fame-asser to get the pinfall. Billy and Chuck have a new theme song, a little bit more of the rocker type. The two guys had a series of reversal until D-Von took control with a sucker punch. Billy came back with some weird combo move out of a hip toss for two. Billy tried to chase D Von around the ring, but Ron Simmons clotheslined him as he came around the corner. D Von then ran Billy into the steps. Back in the ring, and D Von hit his corkscrew shoulder block and then locked on an illegal choke. D Von then went for a chin lock. D Von then hit him with a flap jack for a two count. D Von missed a body drop and Billy hit him with the One and Only, leaving both men down on the mat. Billy came back with a drop kick and a series of punches and hit him with a splash in the corner. Billy went for the Fame-asser, but Simmons grabbed Billy's leg. Chuck went after Ron as Billy countered D Von's finisher with the Fame-asser for the three count.

Undertaker was getting yelled at by Sara on his cell phone backstage. She apparently hung up on him. 'Taker kicked something.

Commercial: Tobacco companies are evil.

Chavo is backstage holding his head and yelling for help from Benoit. Chavo then slammed the door shut on Benoit when he ran into a room. You can hear the place getting torn apart like in a Tom and Jerry cartoon. Eddie came out holding a bent chair saying he got the "job done."

Torrie is backstage talking to her Dad, telling her that she would be more comfortable if he stayed backstage. Dawn Marie came up to him as she walked off and flashed him a bra shot and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

7th Quarter Hour

Tazz is in the ring to plug the Divas Undressed magazine. Torrie came to the ring first, followed by Dawn Marie. Both were hotter then a BBQ on the Equator during a drought in the summer time. But, Torrie came away the winner. Dawn then offered to shake her hand. Torrie blew her off and walked out.

Dawn Marie walked back to Torrie's room. Apparently Torrie was taking a shower, so Dawn showed him some pictures of her in the Divas magazine. She left a card with a hotel room number on it, so he could drop off the magazine. For the love of God

Heyman is backstage walking and talking when Lesnar asked for his cell phone. He called Sara 'Taker up to tell her how bad he felt for her having to "witness that terrible moment" tonight.

They replay Tracey confronting the Undertaker in the ring.

8th Quarter Hour

(4) Edge & Rey Misterio defeated Brock Lesnar (w/Paul Heyman) & Tajiri when the faces hit a combo 619/spear on Tajiri for the win. This is only the fourth match for the night, which is a new low for the last few months. Edge doesn't have any luck locking up with Lesnar, to start off. A shoulder block doesn't help either. Edge finally got some momentum by dodging him and giving him a drop toe-hold and then mocking him so he'd charge him. This led to Edge pulling the top rope down and sending Brock to the floor. Heyman told Brock not to get upset. Lesnar came back with some knees. Misterio tagged blindly, letting him body press Lesnar as he held Edge. Edge blocked Misterio into the corner. Rey tried to go between his legs, but Lesnar caught him by the legs and power slammed him. Lesnar military pressed him and Tajiri tagged himself in. Tajiri caught Rey in the Tarantula in the corner. He went for a kick, but Rey ducked, so Tajiri gave him a drop kick to the chest. Rey fought out with some shoulders to the gut and caught Tajiri with a slingshot head scissors take over. Rey tried to tag, but Tajiri blocked it. He then set him up on the top rope, but Rey knocked him off and tagged Edge. Edge hit Tajiri with a flap-jack and a face plant before tagging Lesnar with a punch in the corner. He then hit Tajiri with a drop down chin lock for a two count. Lesnar then came into the ring and tried to attack Edge in the corner, but he missed and hit the ring post. Edge tried clotheslining Lesnar twice, but he wouldn't go down, so Edge hit him with a flying clothesline instead. Tajiri then tagged Lesnar with a kick by mistake. Misterio went up top and hit a drop kick on Lesnar, followed by a double drop kick by the two faces to send Lesnar out. Misterio then hit the 619 on Tajiri into an Edge spear for the three count. Lesnar dragged Edge out of the ring and gave him an overhead belly-to-belly. Rey tried to hit him with plancha, but he just threw him off. He then hit Tajiri and Misterio with two F 5s before Undertaker ran in and knocked Lesnar out of the ring. Undertaker is grimacing afterwards. That was the tenth Undertaker appearance for the night. I'm sorry, but that is too much overkill for anybody.
