XPW TV report
Aired October 22 on WGTW 48
Taped October 5 at the XPW Arena, Philadelphia, Pa.
By Greg Casterioto, Torch Team Contributor
Clips aired from last week's show of Supreme complaining about his title loss, the Juventud Guererra - Julio Dinero match, post-match comments from Chris Candido, where he vowed to come back after Shane Douglas and Pogo the Clown giving a beat-down to the Sandman and his wife. All the footage was from the October 5 "Fallout" show, taped at the XPW Arena (formerly ECW Arena).
Kris Kloss introduced the show and promised a phone interview with the Sandman later in the show. He also hyped more matches to be shown from "Fallout": Malice vs Vic Grimes and Super Crazy vs Psicosis, which he said was so graphic XPW had to censor some of the footage.
Malice came to the ring for his match against Vic Grimes, but cut a promo first. Malice bashed the fans, calling them "ungrateful Motherf---ers" and told them he wanted to finish what the "late, great Brian Pillman" didn't do and that's "take out my c**k and piss all over the people of Philadelphia," a reference to one of Pillman's great moments in ECW. Malice also said he wasn't there to use the "snuff gimmick" that Rob Black wanted him to (talking about his old XPW gimmick), telling Black to "shove it up his ass," but rather he was there to "represent TNA."
(1) Vic Grimes defeated Malice after a senton bomb through a table. Former ECW referee John Finnegan was the official. Malice gave the crowd the finger at different times during the match. They exchanged some slams and suplexes to start the match. Malice is absolutely huge. Grimes was in full homoeroticism mode as he shoved his ass into Malice's face (ala Rikishi) and then headbutted Malice in the crotch. Halfway into the match, Malice gave Grimes a belly-to-belly suplex from the top rope. A "We Want Blood" chant broke out. Grimes hit two frog splashes from two different ringposts, but Malice kicked out prompting Grimes to leave the ring and set up a table outside. Malice charged Grimes with a chair, but Grimes blocked it, cutting Malice open. Grimes set Malice up on the table, climbed to the top rope and senton bombed him through the table. Grimes rolled Malice back into the ring for the pinfall.
After the match, Grimes grabbed the mic and told Malice that "his promotion sucks, Jerry sucks, Russo sucks and that wannabe Black Panther sucks."
A pre-taped promo aired of Vic Grimes telling Malice that TNA is not nearly as hardcore as XPW. Honestly, did that really need to be established? I think it's kind of obvious. And since when to promos air after matches?
(2) Psicosis defeated Super Crazy with a beautiful top rope legdrop. Kloss called Super Crazy the "hometown favorite" (he's from Guatalahara, Mexico). This was a re-match from their match at "Hostile Takeover" in September. The match began outside the ring with some flips and moonsaults off the security railing. As expected, this match had some outstanding wrestling, including an Asai moonsault that Crazy landed on Psicosis outside the ring in the front row, much like Sabu used to do in the same building. Showing that the crowd is definitely made up of old ECW fans, they counted in Spanish when Crazy cornered Psicosis and punched him in the head ten times. Psicosis hit a top rope legdrop for the pin. It was Psicosis' second straight win over Crazy.
After the match, Crazy used a spike-like object to cut open Psicosis' head. XPW censored the footage as Kloss screamed at the top of his lungs for someone to help. Atlas security guards came into the ring and pulled Crazy off Psicosis. Referees covered up Psicosis' head with a towel.
A promo aired hyping something called "Doomhammer." Not too sure if it's a wrestler or an event. Very reminiscent of the old Glacier promos. Let's hope it's something a little more exciting.
Random footage aired of Vic Grimes getting thrown off a scaffold falling easily 20 feet to a stack of tables that were probably another 15-20 feet high, crashing through them. An absolutely insane move.
Following a commercial break, Super Crazy cut a promo screaming in Spanish with a demented look on his face. He was holding the spike and laughing.
Kloss called the Crazy-Psicosis incident the "sickest we've seen in XPW" and no one had seen or heard from Psicosis since he was taken to the hospital. Kloss hyped the November 16 Arena show in Philadelphia and wondered what Psicosis' face would look like.
The Hardcore Homo cut a promo promising to get revenge against Supreme, telling him he'll "f--- him in the ass."
Kloss interviewed the Sandman over the phone. Sandman talked about making life decisions and that he decided that wrestling wasn't any fun anymore, but wouldn't use the word retirement. He said he didn't like the travelling and he likes being home with his family. He listed his many broken bones and concussions and confessed that he has trouble getting out of bed in the morning. He said he will be 40 in a couple of months and that his wife and kids (who both call him Hack) plead with him to stop wrestling. He said he doesn't need wrestling to feed his family, but admitted that he's lived his life's dream and he will miss it. He said he'll never say he won't be in the ring again, but he's tired and 14 years on the road has caught up with him. He ended the interview by saying "It's time to go."
Kloss closed the show by hyping the November 16 show, telling fans that they will see the exit of the Sandman.
Notes: The one thing that stood out about this show was the lack of Shane Douglas. How many wrestling shows have you ever watched where there was no promo, match or video highlight of the champion? Not many. Otherwise, a solid show.
