Julia Polido of Toronto, Canada (8.5): Best Match: Benoit vs. Orton. Worst Match: Diva Dodge ball. I was at this event live and I think it was probably a lot better than it may have appeared on screen. The crowd, although they loved Chris Benoit, really wanted to see Randy Orton win and he definitely received a huge pop. The crowd reaction was interesting with most of the heels being over. Triple H got a huge reaction, with "Eugene sucks" chants all over the place. Not sure what the reaction from the crowd sounded like during the dodge ball fiasco, but it was pretaped and pretty much the entire arena took that opportunity to have a bathroom break or buy merchandise. The three-way match was actually really good, although it was strange that everyone was so anti-Edge, but it was good to see Jericho get a really good pop.

Christopher Lucky of Northport, Ala. (7.0) : Summerslam was good, yet seemed to be missing something. The Toronto crowd really seemed to ruin a good bit of the matches and served as a big distraction to both the wrestlers and the viewing audience. The six-man tag seemed kept under restraint as if not allowed to showcase too much. There were some signature spots involved, but it didn't really involve much of Mysterio. The Kane vs. Matt Hardy match was fairly well executed but far too short given the amount of time WWE has invested in this angle. The chokeslam off the top rope was tremendous and Hardy sold it like a champ. The Booker T vs. Cena match just seemed to be uneventful. I don't see how the best of five series is going to end up elevating either man up the card, but we will have to see. The Triple Threat was a big miss. Strangely enough, Batista was the only one who seemed to really look like a force in this match. Kurt Angle and Eddie Guerrero put on a stellar match, but it seemed a little too mat wrestling oriented. It should have featured more of Angle trying to ground Guerrero's style of wrestling than Guerrero trying to adapt to Angle's mat skills. Plus the match could have been a good bit longer in order to really showcase what these two are capable of. Triple H vs. Eugene lacked intensity, but was entertaining with Eugene hitting so many different finishers on Hunter. The outcome however, was too predictable in the end. Also, where was all the killer instinct Triple H showed the last couple weeks? Diva Dodgeball was horrible, especially without Carmella. JBL and Taker actually seemed to have a sense of ring psychology to it and was a solid match. The only real drawback of the match was the DQ finish. The World Title match truly shocked me in that I really didn't think Orton would win. Orton lived up to the hype, though, and hopefully some fresh writing will emerge from the win. And if losing wasn't enough, how bout Benoit putting Orton over further with the handshake. Good show overall and cant wait till Monday night!

Chris Embry Charleston, S.C. (7.5): Best match: Orton vs. Benoit. Worst match: What else, the Divas. The first PPV I've watched live since Starrcade '98. Wow. To start off, the diva stuff should have been the first thing on the card. The six-man tag was alright. Nothing too spectacular. Paul London is pretty good. The Dudley gimmick is just funny to me. The midget is bossing the big boys. Anyway, the Kane-Hardy match was a waste. I chose that match to flip and watch my Braves get pounded by the Cardinals. Next, the triple threat match. Again, decent match but they could have done a lot more with it. They could have made it last longer, have more fuel added to the Edge-Y2J feud. I like how Batista has progressed over the last month or so. Mostly a ho-hum match. The Triple H-Eugene match was extremely disappointing. They could have done so much with this match, especially with the buildup. Nobody got busted open, there was no use of the Spanish announce table after Triple H tore it up. I wonder if WWE will ever progress from the "special" Eugene and start showing the extremely gifted wrestler that Nick Dinsmore really is. The JBL-Taker match actually surprised me. Maybe because I was expecting so little. Again, it would have been better with a clean finish. JBL is growing on me as champ. Guerrero vs. Angle was terrible. Ten minutes of the ankle lock. Super. Cena and Booker look terrible. Cena needs a push for JBL's title, and Booker needs to go to Houston and stay. It looks like they're tired of facing each other. Really enjoyed Cena's run-in of Orton's mic time. A possible start to a feud in the making? These are two guys that WWE is supposedly very high on. Diva Dodgeball? Again, watched the Braves get spanked. Finally, the reason I dropped $35 for this: Orton vs. Benoit. Great match, but ended WAY too soon. At 10:40 I looked at the clock and realized that they still had a good 10-15 minutes left to add to this match. So what does Vince do? Ends it less than five minutes later. That was the biggest disappointment of the entire show. They had this great match that could have gone much longer, but they ended it very abruptly with the RKO. I thought it was a little much to have Orton stand in the ring for ten minutes and "cry" I really liked the fact that they shook hands, planned or not. Having Benoit stand there and yell at Orton to "be a man!" was sort of a sign that he's no longer the young kid that J.R. always calls him. He is the man in WWE.

Julian Barnett of Nashville, Tenn. (8.0): Best Match: Angle vs. Guerrero. Worst Match: Suspect booking for the entire card. Not featuring a high-profile cruiserweight match-up (preferably for the title) at every major PPV is asinine. Matt Hardy vs. Kane didn’t work as a match before last night, and Summerslam was no exception. Hardy should be in the IC Title picture instead of Jericho, Jericho (along with Kane) should be chasing the World Title, and Batista should have been sent back to OWV months ago (learning how to NOT make his opponents look like total crap). Kurt Angle is the greatest wrestler of our generation, period: Eddie Guerrero is in the top five of that same list. JBL and Taker surprised me by being watchable (probably one of Bradshaw’s best singles matches ever), at least until the end. Taker impresses me with his ever-changing repertoire of take-downs (Steiner's old finisher) and mat submissions, but he seriously needs to take one for the team and do the job every once in a while. Dinsmore's a good wrestler; I hope that he can survive when his current gimmick tanks. Benoit and Orton worked a very good match, almost as good as Angle-Guerrero. I was surprised that they actually let Orton win; it seems a little too early in his career for a run with the World Title, but he should be just fine if he continues to work and improve as he has been lately.

Paul Clay of Shipley, England (6.5): Best Match: Orton vs. Benoit. Worst Match: John Cena vs. Booker T. Summerslam was possibly the best PPV of the year or equal to Backlash in April. Orton vs. Benoit reminded me of Lesnar vs. The Rock from match to angles and was the match of the night, good wrestling, good near falls and Chris Benoit taking one hell of a beating. I just hope that Chris Benoit stays in the main event bracket, as he has given match of the year candidates left, right and center this year. Chris Benoit was a great World Champion, in fact the best since the brand split in March 2002. As good as Orton is, World Champion? Triple H vs. Eugene was an entertaining match but nothing out of this world. I see the shelf life of the Eugene character expiring any minute. To say The Undertaker vs. JBL was not being looking forward to, I found the match a decent contest. What I do strongly disagree with is the fans behavior throughout this contest. Fans are allowed to boo and cheer as they do so wish, but this wave was a just a slap in the face to Undertaker and JBL. Very disrespectful. I preferred Guerrero vs. Angle from Summerslam to WM20. Shame that this bout was looked forward to and never really got the time amount it deserved. Some excellent mat work in this match. Good to see Angle back, he needed a win more than the always over Guerrero. As for the undercard matches, Kidman & London & Mysterio vs. The Dudleys was a short six-man tag, but a good way to start of the PPV. Kane and Matt Hardy put on a good short encounter even though this angle truly is the pits and Kane's monster gimmick will never be seen again. Who can take him seriously? Worst match had to be John Cena vs. Booker T. Booker T must be wondering what he has done to draw this assignment, another four matches with a wrestler in Cena's position who is quite easily one of the worst wrestlers on the roster considering his position on the card. Finally, the less said about Divas Dodgeball and the Raw Diva contest, the better.

We still welcome your feedback in the above format. Reminder of our new email address: "torchreax" (@pwtorch. com). For consistency's sake, please indicate matches either like this: Bradshaw vs. Guerrero or Bradshaw-Guerrero, but not Bradshaw/Guerrero. The slash indicates they are a team, the dash indicates they are against each other.
