The NWA/WCW presented the "Capital Combat" PPV from Washington, D.C. 25 years ago today featuring Ric Flair vs. Lex Luger in a steel cage match for the NWA World Title.

There was also the infamous Sting/Robocop incident in the middle of Sting's feud with the Four Horsemen.

On a different note, there are some intriguing undercard matches to look at 25 years later, including Mark Callous (future Undertaker) vs. Johnny Ace (John Laurinaitis), The Road Warriors opposite Mick Foley as Cactus Jack in an opening six-man tag match, and Teddy Long getting a haircut.

The full PPV Report is available in the 1990 PWTorch Newsletter back-issues section for VIP members. Contained in Torch Newsletter #70 is the full PPV Report & Roundtable, a Torch Talk with Paul Heyman, and cover story on the Road Warriors leaving the NWA for WWF.

NWA Capital Combat Results
May 19, 1990
Washington, D.C.
Report by Wade Keller, PWTorch editor

Headline Stories: The Road Warriors are leaving the NWA and heading to the WWF. The Roadies were released from their contract with the NWA, which expired in December. They will not use the "Road Warrior" name or wear make-up due to the Ultimate Warrior. They will be called the Legion of Doom.

Ric Flair retained his NWA Title against Lex Luger at Capital Combat when he lost via disqualification. Doom defeated The Steiners to win the NWA Tag Titles.

(1) The Road Warriors & Norman beat Kevin Sullivan & Cactus Jack Manson & Bam Bam Bigelow in 9:00. The Roadies were relegated to an opener because of their departure. Cactus's bumps were great and the card went down from there.

(2) Mark Callous pinned Johnny Ace in a long 15-minute bout. Stupid move: trying to get over Callous as a giant by matching him against a deceptively tall Ace at 6'5".

(3) Paul Ellering pinned Teddy Long in a head-shaving match. Long simply got his hair trimmed.

(4) Samoan Swat Team pinned Tommy Rich & Mike Rotunda.

Sting came to ringside with Robocop, then The Horsemen attacked Sting and locked him in a ringside cage that was meant for Jim Cornette. Robocop approached the cage, bent the bars, and pulled the hinges off the cage, impressing the Horsemen so much that they fled to the locker room. Robocop was not seen again.

Junkyard Dog returned to the NWA in an interview with Jim Cornette.

(5) The Midnight Express beat Tom Zenk & Brian Pillman when Eaton pinned Zenk.

(6) The Rock 'n Roll Express beat The Freebirds when Ricky Morton flew off the top rope with a sunset flip on Michael P.S. Hayes for the pin.

(7) Doom pinned The Steiners to capture the NWA World Tag Titles. Strong semi-main event.

(8) Lex Luger beat NWA World Hvt. champion Ric Flair via DQ in a steel cage; Flair retained the NWA World Title. The Horsemen came to ringside and raised the cage, allowing an attack on Luger for the DQ. Sting made the save as El Gigante guarded the cage. Afterward, Flair did a wild-eyed interview with Barry Windham by his side that was the highlight of the show.
