PWTorch.com reader Chris Schweppe of Orange County, Calif. attended WrestleMania 21 in person and sent the following detailed HOLT report...

An interesting note for starters for those who plan on going to WrestleMania next year or any other big WWE pay-per-view. Staples Center actually sold all the tickets directly behind the stage and when people got there they were told the two sections were closed off. I happened to be in the section right next to the two sections unfortunately. I say unfortunately because all the people who bought tickets directly behind the stage got their tickets upgraded to floor seats! I even met some guys who said they went to WrestleMania last year in New York and said the same thing happened to them and they got seats in the fifth row on the floor. So anyway, don't be afraid to buy seats behind the stage.

Onto the show.

The crowd reaction for the 30 man battle royal was actually pretty good because most people didn't know about it and were surprised. The funny part was that all the Raw wrestlers were wearing red shirts and the Smackdown guys were wearing blue with each general manager cheering their people on. The highlight was the beginning where Heidenreich put on the Hurricane mask and actually imitated the Hurricane. Then as Heidenreich nailed the hurricane all 30 men in the ring (yes, they all fit in there) went nuts and there was chaos. Fun match and absolutely a better way to get the mid-card guys on the show rather than putting them in fatal four-way tag tile matches like last year.

Rey and Eddie started things off great, the crowd was pumped up, they had a nice match. I'll agree with Wade Keller that Eddie looked genuinely distraught after losing the match. While he was leaving he didn't shake any hands like he normally does. Either that or he's heading in a heel direction.

The ladder match was mind blowing. Edge still gets great heat, but the Matt Hardy heat is starting to die down being that there weren't many chants related to him. If you've never seen Shelton Benjamin live, he is a phenomenal athlete. I think Benjamin hurt his ankle or leg when he fell into the ropes, I don't know if the camera was showing it, but his ankle was stuck and twisted in the ropes for a good 2-3 minutes as they had a couple refs come down and help get him out of there. After that, he didn't do anything else in the match and had to have some people help him to the back. Great match with great fan response.

Hogan got a HUGE pop when he came out to help Eugene and beat up Hassan and Daivari. My only bad thing about this was that they let Hogan do his poses in the ring for a whole five minutes which would have helped the Cena-JBL match later on. Other than that, the crowd ate up everything Hogan did.

The reason Taker came out first against Randy Orton is because they had to set up the moving platform in the entrance which made him look like he was floating. BIG heat for Orton. Great match for a Taker match.

When it came to the Women's Title match, Christy got a great response from the crowd when first coming out, but it only took a minute for the crowd to start groaning. She really had no business in the ring. Luckily it was kept short.

Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle was one for the ages. The real interesting side note here is that for some reason people were VERY pro Bret Hart. That's why some were booing Michaels and chanting "You screwed Bret" My guess is that Bret Hart signing autographs at RVD's store played a part in it. What really surprised me was how over Kurt Angle was. It wasn't like Canada over here because not all the heels got cheered. But half were for Michaels and half for Angle. Best match of the night easy.

I don't know what your reports told you, but Austin's pop was just as loud as Hogan's. People were eating up everything these guys had to say, especially when Piper started reacting to the "What?" chants. Well done segment, although I thought it was a little short. It seemed that it was up to this point they started to rush the event.

Akebono and Big Show killed the Cena-JBL match. Why? Because it took five minutes to set up the ring, then after Show and Akebono were in the ring, it took them another five minutes before they went head-to-head. While they were feeling each other out before the match started, the crowd was booing and chanting boring. Total waste of time and Show didn't seem at all happy.

I think Cena is just starting to feel backlash from the Chain Gang gimmick. There were a lot of people booing Cena and even chanting "Cena Sucks." The only thing that saved Cena is that he was facing JBL and everybody seemed to hate him. Had Cena faced Kurt Angle it would NOT have been pretty. It's a shame the match was so short as I was really looking forward to it. The crowd reaction was dead until Cena pinned JBL. After the Angle-Michaels match with so many near falls and wrestlers kicking out of each other's finishers, most people thought JBL would kick out of the FU being 11 minutes in. This type of finish for a WrestleMania main event is inexcusable and a lot of lessons should be learned from tonight. With Cena celebrating, JBL walked straight to the back.

The Batista-Hunter match was passable. Big difference here from Cena is that Batista was over. People went nuts when he shook the ring ropes. After the TV feed went off the air, Batista's humility was refreshing. He just sat on his knees in mid-ring in what seemed forever almost in disbelief in what was happening. He posed for awhile and while heading back he bowed down to the fans. Great deserving guy. Top-notch event for WWE despite the disappointment of the rushed main events.
