[HOUR ONE]
-Excalibur introduced the show as they panned the audience. He said they were live in France. They cut to Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Nigel McGuinness at ringside. He hyped the Clockwork Orange match and then they hyped the scheduled line-up.
(Keller’s Analysis: Last week, Tony Khan admirably removed any hype for this week’s Dynamite. This loaded line-up has to be a pleasant surprise for the likely greatly reduced number of usual Wednesday night viewers who are aware this show is even airing a day early.)
(1) BANDIDO (w/Brody King) vs. KOFI KINGSTON (w/Austin Creed) – ROH World Title match
As Kofi made his entrance, Renee Paquette did a ringside report saying Kofi is looking for opportunities to wrestle the best and they want all the belts, so he promised not to leave Paris without the title. Bandido made his entrance second. The bell rang 5 minutes into the hour. Bandido and Kofi expressed mutual respect. Fans chanted, “Kofi! Kofi!” Bandido encouraged it. Nigel said it’s a privilege to call matches in AEW that he never thought he’d see. Fans chanted “New Le-Vel! New Le-Vel!” and then “Bandido! Bandido!” Then, “Let’s go, Kofi / Ban-di-do!” Kofi landed a dive at ringside. Bandido came back with a long-delay-drop vertical suplex. Both were down and slow to get up. Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana walked out. “Hangman” Adam Page followed behind to a big pop and ovation. They cut to a double-box break. [c/db]
After the break, Kofi landed a Boom Drop. Kofi led a crowd chant waiting for Bandido to stand, but Bandido ducked a tornado kick. Schiavone pointed out the Hangman-Swerve staredown from across the ring. Bandido landed a quick twisting crossbody press off the top rope for a two count at 10:00.
Kofi landed a modified middle rope springboard Disaster Kick for a two count seconds later. They battled back and forth and then both ended on their backs as fans applauded. Kofi drove Bandido into the bottom turnbuckle, but was slow to get up. He climbed to the top rope and landed a splash to the back of Bandido as Bandido began to stand, which led to a two count. Bandido caught Kofi on the top rope and landed a Blockbuster backflip slam for a near fall; Kofi grabbed the bottom rope at the count of two.
After a near fall by Kofi, Hangman went after Swerve at ringside. They were separated by their cohorts. Bandido then gave Kofi his 21 Plex for the win.
WINNER: Bandido in 14:00 to retain the ROH Title.
(Keller’s Analysis: Really fun match with an invested crowd. The ringside stuff was fine and didn’t take much away from the match itself.)
-Renee narrated a video package on Clockwork Carnage, describing the format and phases and rules.
(Keller’s Analysis: You’ll be quizzed later. I liked her nice touch near the end saying that the winner will face either Will Ospreay or Kazuchika Okada.)
-Renee interviewed Ospreay backstage, who was accompanied by “Speedball” Mike Bailey. Ospreay said he’s lost 11 out of 13 times to Okada. Omega said it’ll be a blow to his ego if he loses tonight because the Clockwork match is his idea, combining a Casino Gauntlet match and an Iron Man match. Speedball said he has a qualifying match on Collision and when he wins the Clockwork match, he won’t hold bac. Ospreay then said he’s about to show everybody why he’s the World Champion.
-Excalibur plugged Ospreay vs. Okada.
(Keller’s Analysis: I don’t know the outcome yet, but this match is defined down from its potential by putting it on a Dynamite without weeks of build and more of an explanation of why Okada earned it. Okada getting an AEW World Title match should be saved for when it can really be fully hyped.) [c]
(2) SAMOA JOE vs. JACK PERRY – Clockwork Carnage qualifier
As Joe made his entrance, an inset soundbite aired with Joe saying Perry better hope there’s enough left of him to be the man he thinks he is. Perry then made his entrance. Fans sang Perry’s theme. Perry charged when the bell rang, but Joe lifted him and tossed him to the mat.
