SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Cody Rhodes has signed a new deal with WWE that he believes will take him to the end of his in-ring career.

“Forgive me if this is breaking news and please edit it if I’m not allowed to share, which is fine,” said Rhodes during an interview with Flagrant. “I just re-signed with WWE, so I’ll end my wrestling career (with WWE).”

Rhodes did not reveal how long the contract will run or give any other details about the contract, but he did mention that his relationship with WWE allows him to pursue outside projects such as the upcoming Streetfighter movie where he plays Guille. “Say I do have another project,” said Rhodes. “Say I got two other projects, whatever it may be. I’m able to take a step away and I’m able to collaborate with WWE and I’m able to come back home.”

Rhodes also talked about the pay structure in WWE and said the money in wrestling is good now because wrestlers have other places to wrestle besides WWE. “The wrestling economy is different now because there’s other places you can go wrestle,” said Rhodes. The best way to put it, the money in wrestling and sports entertainment is very good. I feel like if you were my dad or any of these wrestlers we talked about on that list, you’d be shocked. My mom didn’t get it when I said, “Hey, X amount.’ Now the contracts are guaranteed. All that means to me, it’s like, that’s a huge responsibility.”

Rhodes said he didn’t know what new wrestlers make in WWE, but everyone beyond that level in WWE is making six figures. “I don’t know what our developmental, I mean everything is six figures, said Rhodes.” “You know what, I’ll actually defer to Nick Khan, because Nick has a great quote about these guys are going to do well, these guys are going to do really well, and then these couple guys, he named a few guys, they’re going to do next level.”

Rhodes said that WWE president Nick Khan has made sure that wrestlers were paid at the same level compared to professional athletes. “That next level pay is now comparable with sports,” said Rhodes. “That’s the part that I’m so proud of being a wrestler because when you hear baseball contracts and NBA contracts and you know as a wrestler that you go all over the world and be known and seen but you weren’t on that level, you were on the level of penetration but not that level of income. Now, modern TKO and Nick have made it that you are.”
