SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
AEW wrestler Mike Bailey, who is a high-flyer, has shown that they are capable of wrestling that style while also appearing to be in a real fight when they are in the ring. Not only is Bailey a capable high-flyer, but their offense and movement in the ring is crisp and tight. Everything they do appears to have momentum behind it whether they are whipping someone off the ropes or bouncing off of them.
Bailey said the key to their wrestling looking so crisp and their matches looking like they are in a real fight is that they have cultivated a narrow set of moves they are comfortable with. “But I think that this is a general thing about professional wrestling, but also a good piece of advice for professional wrestlers,” said Bailey during an exclusive interview on Radican Worldwide available now for PWTorch VIP members ahead of AEW’s WrestleDream PPV on Oct. 17. “But nothing looks as good as what you’re comfortable doing, right? “All the situations that I put myself in are situations that I know how to deal with better than anyone on earth. And I think, you know, I still train martial arts regularly. I still, I still train very hard to, you know, stay sharp within those situations.”
Bailey said they have gotten to the point where they can do the moves they want to do in the ring without having to second-guess what they are doing, so that they can put the majority of their attention on the moves that need their attention. “But I think at this point, it doesn’t have to be a conscious effort, but I also think that that’s impossible,” said Bailey. “I think that if you are second-guessing every movement in the ring, you are doing things wrong.
“I think in order to be able to do things that are as difficult as what I do in the ring, 99% of it needs to be very comfortable so that you’re able to focus on the 1% that needs your attention, and that’s something that I’ve really cultivated throughout my whole career.”
